My hubby wants a set of cheap training katanas to play with. I can't remember which type he prefered. Should I get him a solid wood set, or something like a bamboo stick set for Valentine's day. Tell me which you would prefer and why. Also any advice about buying a set off of ebay?

I'm not sure what a 'set of training katanas' is. A katana is a type of sword. A bokken is a wooden sword that is shaped like a katana. A shenai is a bamboo stick used for Kendo. It is not the size or shape of a katana.

Buying a bokken or shenai on eBay should be pretty simple. Since these are for practice only, it shouldn't matter if they are chipped or splintered in any way. It would be a different story if you were looking to buy a real katana.

Sorry but the katana is a right handed weapon. The closest you might come is Aikido which is based on the movements of the Japanese sword and which then practices each technique on both sides of the body however, whenever one is using or practicing with a katana, it is always a right handed weapon. namaste

Buy swords on e-bay, at your own peril (I've learnt from ((bitter)) experience). If your husband wants to learn how to use 'samurai' swords properly, try these sites instead:

I bought my (practise) iai-to from 'nine circles' and highly recommend them (I am a practising Iaido-ka).
