Ask a pharmacist - they're open better hours than dr's and the advice is free. Be careful, ulcers can mean something else is up. I suffered from ulcers for months, before making some changes to my diet and lifestyle.

Sadly UK GP's don't get enough training in nutrition. Vitamin C is especially good for skin problems, I'd really up my intake of fresh fruit and veg, particularly some raw ones to get this naturally. (Drastic changes to diet are probably best phased in) plus take a multi-vitamin and mineral tablet. I'd try Vit C at 1000mg per day for 3-4 weeks to see how things turned out too.

Garlic is also likely to be anti-viral, as well as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, all of which can either cause ulcers or lead to secondary infection or problems of the damaged skin. You could add some to your diet or take a supplement.

You can gargle with salt water or apply some salt to the ulcer, which speeds healing - prepare for some discomfort tho!

Sleep well and reduce stress too.

Don't dismiss seeing your dr, as sometimes continuous ulcers are indications of Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease which are digestive problems.

Good luck! Rob

After almost a year of mouth ulcers, tried all the traditional remedies, b complex, vit.C, gave up sugar, ate healthily, tried dentists, doctors and hospital consultants, all with nil result. The consultant said 'you have a condition that causes mouth ulcers'. Very helpful.

Went to a recommended naturopath, was given a homeopathic remedy & kinesiology, was told to give up chewing gum and conventional toothpaste and the ulcers had practically disappeared within two weeks.

Try taking multi-vitamins (as it's suggested mouth ulcers are caused by vit B deficiency) and calcium tablets. Use corsodyl mouthwash (what the dentists use) to limit the spread or TCP.

It's caused from a virus that can pop up especially if you are under stress. You could also have a food allergy or an impaired immune system. Go to a doctor for prescription treatment.

Try brushing your teeth with toothpaste that does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. My husband had trouble with canker sores and they dissapeared after he got rid of the SLS in his toothpaste.
