SSI is only for people with disabilities. She may be eligible for child support from him...under certain circumstances SSI can be garnished for this. See here about SSI garnishment: http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/garnishment-law.html#SS The New York State Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance can assist you with claiming child support.

She may also be eligible for TANF and/or food stamps if your income meets the eligibility requirements. Ask about these benefits at the New York State Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance at: http://www.otda.state.ny.us/

If her father is actually on SSDI (people often confuse SSI with SSDI), she is likely eligible for benefits based on his work history. If this is the case, you can apply for benefits on her behalf at the Social Security Administration. 1-800-772-1213.

Good luck!

You would have to show that he does support her, but even with that they will take your income into account and limit how much she could get because of it. Also it could take anywhere from 3 months to more than a year to get approved. He needs to contact SSI and let them know he is responsible for supporting her.
