it sounds dumb i know but he really got on with my family and even lived at my home for a few months over the summer. but i split up with him on christmas even and i havent yet told my mam that weve broken up whats the best way to tell her?

Just tell her... It doesn't matter how much your family got along with him, they will support your decisions. You don't need to give a laundry list of reasons why or anything, just say he wasn't the one for you and you broke up. She'll understand.
