A New Jersey woman who wants to send Silly String to U.S. troops in Iraq to help them detect trip wires is accepting cans of the spray string as well as donations to help cover costs.
Checks can be made out to Marcelle Shriver and sent to St. Luke's Church, 55 Warwick Rd., Stratford, N.J. 08084.
Shriver also is collecting names and addresses of soldiers and Marines in Iraq who may need Silly String. Suggestions should be sent to ron101abn@comcast.net.

the story is that the soldiers are using the silly string to detect trip wires for bobby traps in buildings they have to secure. supposedly they spray the silly string thru a door way or into a hallway and the sting gets caught on the trip wire. since the sting is too light to break the wire and just hangs there, they can avoid the trap and diffuse the bomb. i work near a busy base and have talked to a lot of soldiers, they really appreciate just about anything that gets sent. the one thing they did say the dont care to see is packages of hot choclate, it's like 115 degrees over there, the last thing they want is hot choclate.

I really haven't heard this, and would be concered that in the summer months the cans may explode durning shipping, but if you want to donante silly string try the USO website or Any Solider.com. Those are two top sites that are easy to google and find. And anysoldier.com does support all branches.

You can contact your local recruiter for a address and they can give it to you.
Yes the soldiers are using silly string for that purpose. They need all the help they can get. So from my military family thank you for helping keep our boys safe.

That is in fact true. It picks up trip wires in a unusual way. There is a way to send it, but I forget the site.
I'm sure a simple search will do it.

Fantastic idea. I wonder if contacting the company directly could help get more of the stuff to the troops?

Wow! What a great idea! Makes sense, too! I wish I had known this in time to buy stock in the company that makes it! Too late now!
