i'll admit it....9 times out of 10, i dont/wont wear 1. i only drive 2 miles to/from work, and most of my driving is very short hops. on long cruises, i feel it just gets too constricting especially on freeways. if i'm on a unfamilar twisty road in the car in bad weather....snow, fog, or rain at night, i'd put it on. but i pretty much dont see the need for it on interstates where access is tightly controlled and everyone is going in the same direction.
those who are licensed at least a year in ohio, its optional in having to wear a helmet on a bike, in other states, its manditory. if i'm gonna ride, i'll wear a helmet unless its just to and from work. reason being, taking impacts from anything that managed to bypass the windshield can hurt like a mofo on the head at speeds over 35 mph.

I'm an auto damage appraiser and I've seen many cars that were damaged in accidents where the seat belts have definitely saved lives. I would say the main reason is ignorance and a feeling of immortality from never having been in a serious accident. When I started driving seat belts were not required by law so I was very used to driving without one myself and when the seat belt laws came about I rejected them and refused to wear one myself. Once I became an appraiser and saw the results of not wearing one my eyes were opened to reality and I never drive without wearing one now. That being said; and just to play devil's advocate, when I was a teenager in high school there were two brothers I knew that crashed their car while speeding down the road. The one that was not wearing his seat belt was thrown from the car and survived but the other brother died. Statistics show that your odds of surviving a crash with the seat belt on are better than when it's off but I guess when it comes right down to it you never know...

Ya OK morons,
My Dad said he would never be forced to wear a seat belt, So he didn't, he was ejected from the car at 65 MPH. My two kids were in their seatbelts as I demanded if they are going to ride with grandpa this is a rule. They are 20 and 15 now and watched their grandpa get ejected. If we ever talk about Grandpa...She cries this happened when she was 9 years old. Think about others

Some people usually do not wear seatbelts because they feel it is a "hassle" to get on and off. Other people are into the habit of just not putting it on. Another excuse is that they believe that a seatbelt is not safe, and if you are trapped in the middle of the road and a truck is coming (unable to stop) your seatbelt may get "stuck" and you're trapped there, awaiting your doom...Of course, it is not safe to not wear a seatbelt--Buckle Up!! It's the law!! (Hope this helps!!)

Well, many people grew up without wearing seat belts. I know I did. It took a nasty accident to convince me to wear one from that point forward.
For many years now, in many states (not sure if it's a federal law, don't think so) seat belts have been required. But for people, I think 30+ years old, they weren't required growing up, so they aren't necessarily in the habit and don't do it as an adult.

My sister-in-law would never wear a seat belt in the car. She said that if the car landed in water, the seat belt would cause one to be trapped and drown.
Sadly, she was killed in a car accident while not wearing a seat belt. If she had been wearing it, she would probably still be alive today.

They think they are invincible just because nothing catastrophic ever happened to them. They are the same people that do not wear helmets on motorcycles, don't unplug the disposal before sticking their hand in it, and never wear condoms with prostitutes.
In short, they are ignorant.

Urban legend is the number one reason. Everyone "knows" of someone who would have been killed if wearing their seat belt, therefore they will never wear one. This is despite ample evidence that seat belts do save lives. "Click it, or ticket!"
