Anything but a rose. Why don't you go to a good florist that specializes in these types of situations, and would have a better idea of what type of flower represents what emotion or message you want to send to the person. My personal favorites are:
Iris
Daffodil's
Tulips
Carnations (yes - carnations)
Lillie's

any flower is a joy to receive, just be careful about the colour, some have meaning, loyalty, friendship etc (if I recall yellow is a no no. Look for flowers that are fresh and will last, I find cut roses here smell nice but do not last as long as in europe but here they have prettier colours. It is a delicate and charming thought. BRAVO

How about a rose with greenery & babies breath? Roses come in many colors & symbolize different things. Ask the florist what color he/she would recommend, given the situation, but don't give a red rose because it stands for "Love" & you barely know this gal. If you know the month of her birthday, perhaps you may want to present her with that flower. I'd get it from a florist, as they can do their magic & you'll be proud to present this gal with it.

dont try goin for a dozen roses, that one has been used FOREVER and it get cheesy after a while. u need to try to get a more simple flower, like lillies, but get white ones. and if that doesnt float your boat try gettin any flower that smells good, every girl in the world loves a flower that smells good and loves the guy even more that gave them to her.

Not roses!!!
Get her some lillies or tulips or a mixed bouquet. That says "I'm a gentleman and I like you" without giving too strong of a signal.

I'm pretty sure there are some Violets you cant get that are as tall as you're wanting, and they can stand the cold; check around with local growers.
