I noticed it a few months ago, the spec moves when I move my eye, but when I stop my eye (say from looking at one fixed point on the left, to looking at one fixed point on the right) the spec doesn't settle into new position for perhaps half a second after I have stopped moving my eye. I am in my late twenties, don't need/wear glasses or lenses. Should I be worried about this, what could this be?

It is known as a floater. I have some. I've had them since I was born, but they haven't been a problem for me. However, some floaters do appear later on during the twenties, and it's possible (but not necessarily true) that floaters can be attributed to a disease in the eye.

I asked my ophthalmologist about three years ago if I could remove them, and he said no because then some of the vitreous fluid can leak out if they have to do surgery to open the eyeball to take the floaters out, and that may cause even more floaters to appear. Unfortunately, you are stuck with the floaters, unless they go away on their own.

What you need to do is go to an ophthalmologist (different than an optometrist!) and have it checked out asap. To read more about floaters, you can look at:

Any time you have a problem with eye sight you should see an eye doctor. I just wanted to share with you something that happened to me and it could be a similar problem you have. Back in my mid twenties, I was clearing lawn at a new place I recently bought. It was very over grown and I had a hard time seeing what was underneath all the weeds. I used a weed wacker cause they were that deep. I hit a certain area and a large hive of yellow jackets emerged from the ground and one came up and stung me right in the eye ball. I ran like a bat out of, well, you know. It left me with a blind spot. I can't see past a spot from that certain area of my eye and doctors say I never will. I'm told it is scar tissue. Any way, always go to a doctor when you have a problem like that.

Yes there could be a problem that is correctable, but only if you go get this seen by an eye doctor. It is better to be safe than sorry. Most malls have eye doctors that are available on Saturdays, so get yourself in if at all possible today. It might be your sight your save. Again it is better to be safe than sorry. Hope everything is alright!!!
