The Holocaust is the largest urban legend in existence. It's purpose is getting undeserved money and sympathy for Jews. You'll find many of the details in other people's answers.

Questions about the Holocaust logically ought to be just one subcategory of all the historical questions that a person could possibly ask. But they aren't. The reason the Holocaust is "special" for many people is that they've been psychologically conditioned by year after year of televised and textual political propaganda and by philosemitic moral indoctrination.

If you question what Pol Pot did or didn't do in Cambodia, what Mao ZeDong did or didn't do in China, or what Stalin did or didn't do in Ukraine, you'll get reasoned argument. But if you question what Adolf Hitler did or didn't do in Poland, people will snap at you, call you nasty names, and declare that you are unfit to live in modern society. And THAT reaction is the result of Jewish media indoctrination. Learn to recognize it.

Whereas it's true that Jews were killed during the Second World War, the number of Jewish dead isn't six million: it's closer to 300,000. And none of the Jews who died was killed by the German National Socialists in "homicidal gas chambers." Those gas chambers are mythical. They didn't exist during the war, and the one that is in Auschwitz now was built by the Soviets after the war was over.

The Holocaust story glosses over the fact that far, far more gentiles than Jews died. The Second World War killed more than 50 million people, and less than one percent of those people were Jews. Why, oh why, do the Jews get so vastly much more than their share of the attention today?

The answer is that Jews have so vastly much more influence than they should have. They own the media, and they have set up a political corruption machine that sucks money from gentiles in a way similar to the way a hurricane draws heat from warm water. The defalcated money is used, in part, to keep the deception going. In some countries, it is used to make belief in the Jews' Holocaust lies mandatory, or to make disputing them punishable by law. Men are in prison in Germany and in Austria right now for telling the truths that the Jews don't want told.

ooo. This is really somthing you should know about, but I don't think online is the best place to hear about it. it was bad, really bad. It was worse than words can tell. You'd need to read a book about it to get any real idea how bad it was.

It happened about 1933 to 1945.
The Nazis, lead by Hitler, had control of the German goverment. Germany had a LOT of problems left over from WWI. Inflation (money was worthless) ecomomic problems, porverty, they had been crushed in WWI, then ground into the dirt. The Nazi's blamed the Country's problems on Jewish people. The Jews weren't really at fault, the Nazis just needed someone to blame.

They started passsing a buch of laws against Jews, taking away their rights, but they decided on a more permanent solution to the "Jewish problem".

They killed them all. In every nation that the Nazis invaded, they would round up all the Jewish people and send the to horrible concentration camps, where they were tortured, starved, and killed in horrific ways. The Death toll was somthing around 12 MILLION. 12,000,000 jewws, jeova's witnesses, anybody who didn't agree with the Nazis, but mostly jews.

My Friend has a picture of her whole faimly that was taken before the Holocaust. There are 75-100 people in it. Only two Survived.

63 Million people (including combatants) died during WWII, I lost an uncle. That was 3% of the world population. The war was integrally related to the systematic killing of 6 million Jews. The fascist Nazi system used the Jews as a scapegoat to make it easier to control their population to do the harm they eventually did. Basic divide and conquer.

We saw the Nazis gradually take away rights from Jews, like due process, and eventually would not allow Jews to use buses and finally even bicycles while killing them in concentration camps.

This should not be correlated with the US Attorney General saying due process is not a right of the constitution and they can hold people forever without letting the case go before a judge, or the No-Fly list, this is not a precursor, surely the prison in Cuba where people are held indefinitely is not camp. At best this is the germ of the Nazi dream. But we have to be sensitive and realize that evil too learns and does not always repeat itself. Fighting terrorists is more potent for evil, after all everyone could be a terrorist. It may start with a racially defined group but it can expand anytime and threaten people who threaten the system.

the short answer:
the mass slaughter of European civilians and especially Jews by the Nazis during World War II

You really need to read up on the details of the atrocities committed. Go visit Auschwitz, for example.

Lots of movies have been made (search Wikipedia for a list of Holocaust movies) on the subject. Two that immediately come to mind (and that I have seen) are The Hiding Place (from mid 70's about Corrie Ten Boom's experiences, but includes some graphic scenes to give you an idea of the horror) and Schindler's List (released in the early 90s). See if you can rent one from your local video store just to get some visual imagery for context. And don't forget to do some reading. Encyclopedias such as Wikipedia are a good start. Lately many people have been denying that it ever occurred, and Iran recently held a "conference" to consider whether it did. Such denials are not credible.Arguing with such people is a waste of time because their epistemological base is flawed -- better to start with that issue if you encounter such people.

It's an important part of history. I think if you read a book about, read the stories of survivors and see the pictures. You need to see for yourself the awful things that people do to others.

One day when I was young a lady was serving dinner and when she put the plate on my table he sleeve moved up her arm and there was a tatooed number on her arm. I never forgot it and read about the holocaust itself and then about what lead up to it.

The holocaust is not just about that six million jews were killed along with gypsies and other "inferior" races. The holocaust is about how hatred can take a preson's humanity away and they become capable of unspeakable acts.

The holocaust was by Hitler starting in Germany and extending to surrounding area like Austria & Poland where he killed, tourtered millions of Jews the main victims, 12 million were killed and place into concentrations camp and even branded. Not only jews but also anyone who wasn't part of his perfect world. Read about it on the internet and read Anne Frank a true story.

Honey that is a very serious subject and it is something that is so much so that it cannot be explained in a yahoo answer board and given the complete respect and dignity, if you will, that it deserves. I would ask that you go to your local library and read on this subject as well as look it up online. You can also go to a History Channel web site i am sure if you look in their archives and order one of their past documentaries that you could see this travesty with your own eyes. You can also go to your local university and request to see the History professor or Historian. Do everything in your power to find out about this. If anyone on this site tells you it did not happen, please excuse it as ignorance and continue to seek enlightenment on this very touching matter. It will put a mark on your soul forever.

The Holocaust with a capital H is probably about the six milliion Jews (men, women and children) who were murdered by the Germans in the Forties just because they were Jews . But others suffered as well, such as gypsies, homosexuals, mentally or physically deformed people---they were murdered because they were "sub-standard" according to Hitler and his twisted ways of thinking, and the evil men who carried out his beliefs. Sadly, Mankind never learns, and there have been many holocausts, where groups of people are murdered simply because of their race, religion, tribe, sexuality, or even culture--genocide. I don't understand what evil chip exists in man to do this or why God hasn't stopped it. Human beings deserve to live, procreate, love, provide for and protect their families and thrive without poverty or fear of murder.
