The kittens started eating regular cat food at 4 weeks old. From the time they were 4 weeks old until they were 9 weeks old I did not see them nursing at all. In the last week I have caught them nursing multiple times. When they were about 5 weeks old the momma kitty's mammary glands hardened and I thought her milk had dried up. Is it possible that her milk came back or are they just fixated with the sucking and kneading motion of nursing? I am keeping 2 of the kittens, so they will be in the same house as momma kitty. How can I wean them? Please help!!

Don't worry, Momma will soon get sick of it, plus she will soon produce no milk at all. Try getting the babies some furry toys to play with. When they try to nurse , just pull them off of Momma and tell Mom and babies "No!" in a firm voice. I think they are just enjoying the comfort of nursing and kneading. I have a 5 month old kitten who will nurse on anything she can get near on a human (earlobes, eyelids, moles and once she even bit my husbands nipple when he was asleep in bed, he screamed like a little girl! LOL)

The kittens have probably been nursing and you just didn't see. When they start eating cat food they don't nurse as much. They also do it for comfort and as habit. The mom will take care of weaning them. She will let them know when she has had enough.

I am not sure. We got our kitty from my husband's aunt and now she sucks on his ear at night and my fingers when she is sleepy. They call it suckling from improper weaning. Please make sure someone other than me tells you the right way to do it. His aunt said the kitty was ready to go, and she was not even weaned at all!

PS We got our ktity when she was 6 weeks, I should have known something was up. But his aunt assured me everything was fine. SUUUREE

Separate the kittens and the mother cat.
