The Refusal to submit to the authority of a Pope is just the smart thing to do. The Popes have set down some wacky, and downright harmful rules over the years.

That is normal for a NON-Catholic. I'm still trying to find the pope in the pizza for the FIND THE POPE IN THE PIZZA CONTEST that Father Guido Sarducci started back in the 70's on SNL.
The Pope is no better nor worse than any other Christian in this world. He doesn't even use CHARMIN. I've USED toilet paper from Italy..OUCH! Like crape paper.

The Pope has no authority over any ones relationship with God. You and you alone are responsible for that.
