Because condoms do not prevent you from catching STDs. HPV (Human Papillomavirus, the most common STD) and other STDs can be transmitted from the inner thighs and cannot be covered by a condom. Condoms are not a guaranteed way to avoid STDs or pregnancy, and although advertisements may indicate differently, they do not tell you all the fine print you need to know.

"The Church teaches "Sex within Marriag" &
Marriage: Sacrament of Christ and Church.
Paraphrasing St. Paul: For this reason a man will leave father and mother and cling to his bride, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a profound mystery, and it refers to Christ and the Church . Christ left his Father in heaven. He left the home of his mother on earth - to give up his body for his Bride (Catholic Church) so that we might become “one flesh” with him. ......
St. Paul wasn’t kidding when he said this is a “profound mystery.” Could God have mad our sexuality any more important than this? Any more beautiful? Any more glorious? God gave us sexual desire itself to be the power to love as he loves, so that we could participate in the divine life and fulfill the very meaning of our being and existence.
Sounds great you say, but it’s a far cry from the way sex play itself out in the experience of real human beings. Yes, it is. The historical abuse of women at the hands of men; the tragedy of rape and other heinous sex crimes, even against children; AIDS and a host of other sexually transmitted diseases; unwed mothers; “fatherless” children; abortion; adultery; skyrocketing divorce rates; prostituion; a multibillion-dollar pornography industry; the general cloud of shame and guilt that hangs over sexual matters - all of this paints a very different picture from the one St. Paul and John Paul II give us.
The picture it paints, in fact, is the tragedy of human sinfulness and our fall from God’s intention for our sexuality “in the beginning”."

Because they believe that sex is for procreation, not recreation.
I really wish people would stop with the altar boy jokes. I'm an atheist and even I get insulted. Raping kids is not something to joke about. There are more non-priests than priests who rape children anyhow. So knock it off already.

Catholicism teaches that the unitive and procreative aspects of the marital act cannot be separated, which is why it also opposes in vitro fertilization. There is no teaching on the use of contraception outside of marriage.

Because Catholicism opposes contraception. Abstinence in obedience to God is far more effective than condoms against STD's.

They do. The only prohibition is that they are not to be used for Birth Control. AIDS and STD control, yes. Birth control, NO.
Use them for the right reason and you are perfectly fine. BTW If you are using one for STD control it still works ok.
