Getting approved for a credit card is not solely based on your score. They usually also pull what is called a tri-merge. That is a report from the 3 major bureaus and go with your middle score. So if you have a 567 w/ experian, a 589 w/ TransUnion and a 621 w/ Equifax they would go with the 589. Plus the following factors --- your current and past credit as well. Do you have collection accounts, charge offs, past due payments on other accounts? How many credit inquires have you had? There are numerous factors they base your approval on. What I would ask yourself is do you really need it or do you just want it? If you need to establish credit sometimes a secured credit card is a good way to start.

I don't know if you can get a Sears card or a Wal-Mart card as I don't know what their criteria are for extending a line of credit to a person. That is a question you have to ask the credit grantor(s). But I do know that you definately need to work on getting that credit score up. In this world we live in, YOU ARE YOUR CREDIT SCORE! Whether it is right or wrong, I don't know, but I do know that in American society, that is 90% of how credit grantors see you.

Mine is also close to this... no.. chances are not good. You may get some applications in the mail for other cards, but look carefully at the fees.... There are bound to be participation, application, and other annual fees. Because of your low score, they know you have no other choice than to pay these fees if you really want a credit card. I say go without and try to uncover yourself from the pile of debt... that's what Im doing.

As long as your recent history is positive, it show that you are improving your financial responsibilities. Do not apply for too many cards at once, that looks bad. Recent late payments could hurt you as well.....
