ok i think everyone who has anwser to my question has completey missed the point of the bible. The "point" of the bible is that over 1400 years 40 men kept the same view. They all repeated each others words and they all didnt know each other. Its not the fact that men had tree-hundred wife and women were worthless.
another thing is that im thirteen ive seen God wrok in my life. I am truely happy right now. IM NOT insane and I have read the bible many times. My God is really to me. He may not b real to u. So my goal in life is make sure that everyone finds the love of MY savior Jesus; Sadly im not really going to get to everyone. Unfortunetly lucifer hads already beaten me. and it is pretty darn obvious why you dont believe in God but i guess I'll let u find that out on your.
may God bless you and every one you love!

Here's the thing, many atheists started out as Christians. I was raised Catholic, and attended Catholic school until Grade 7. I've read the bible. I wasn't imressed. Reading the bible--All of it-- is what turned many of us away from the idea of religion.

Sadly, it seems many atheists are more familliar with the bible than the christians are.

But nice try.

But, on the same hand, have you read any book such as "The God Delusion"? Maybe you Xians should do that before you criticize our lack of belief. It's certainly better written than the bible is.

I see that it is the people who have read it pointing out to the ones that have not that they need to stop picking and choosing what they throw at people.
I am not even christian and I still have read it more than they have.
What gets me are the ones that carry the book with them like a shield. they read and reread one or two parts and then they claim to know it. I have seen more than one christian stuck on what to say when the rest of it is quoted to them.

Dude if all you wanted to do was witness then why didn't you do that?

While many have not read the bible through once, I have read it many times over the past few years. I believe I could answer anyone's question, if it is a legal question on any topic in the bible.

The Bible is not everyones belief, fortunately.
I believe that it's wrong to sell your daughters as sex slaves, also that it's wrong to have many wives and to beat them. I do not want to destroy entire villages and kill everyone in them because they have supertitions and odd beliefs.
Also I did not read every volume of Harry Potter but I can still say that he is also a fictional character, just like god.

I haven't read it, I'll admit that. But I also don't go around spouting bible verses at everyone. I can defend my right to be an atheist without having to pull out a big huge book that puts everyone to sleep.

Look at all the killing in the bible for not believing in god. Stoning children that do not obey their parents, killing a whole city because some sinners. Count all the [senseless] killings in the bible and see if you still thing it is a good book....

read KJV 3 times.
Gideons (you know the famous hotel bibles,) 2 times,
and am working on the NIV right now.

You are insane.

happy now.

oy yeah, and i do not quote bible verses, that just makes it look like my entire arguement is based in a book that may or may not be true. i like to say..."what was it that Jesus said in that one story, something about love thy neighbor."

Even reading a few passages of the Bible isn't enough for someone to begin criticizing it. You have to read it all otherwise some of it won't make any sense and all you will end up with is a bunch of contradictions (which is what some of you are looking for anyway)

BIBLE TEACHES RACISM AND PREJUDICE WHEN IT TALK ABOUT CHOSEN PEOPLE AND GENTILES. EVEN THE NEW TESTAMENT TALK ABOUT THIS . BIBLE TELLS YOU IT IS OKAY TO KILL SOMEBODY WHEN IT SAYS 'EYE FOR AN EYE'. LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED IN SODOM AND GO MORA. THAT'S WHY IT WAS EASY FOR AMERICA TO BOMB HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI. LOOK WHAT GOD'S MOST FAVORITE KING, KING DAVID DID. HE KILLED HIS BEST FRIEND AND TOOK HIS BEAUTIFUL WIFE. GOD KILLED THE FIRST BORN OF ALL EGYPTIANS .HEY THAT'S OKAY.THEN HE KILLED THE ENTIRE ARMY. HE MADE SURE THAT HIS OWN PEOPLE WILL SUFFER 40 YEARS IN THE DESERT AND OF COURSE 2000 YEARS IN THE WILD. HE ALSO MAKING SURE THAT A GOOD NUMBER OF PEOPLE WILL DIE EVERY DAY FROM BOMBINGS FROM THEIR NEIGHBORS.

Read it, studied it, taught it...
And now I'm an atheist.
I'll match my bible knowledge against 99% of Christians.
(I don't have Greek or Hebrew: I rely on commentaries to tell me where that's of critical importance.)

And check my answers, please. I may state my position, but I don't "bash Christians", unless you include stating alternate perspectives.

I'm afraid your hypothesis that knowledge of the bible dis-empowers atheism is flawed.
