As-salaam alayki ya Khalida. My name is Sophia, and it means wisdom in Greek. I like the meaning of my name and find it so fascinating the way names mean so much. I spent some time in Jordan recently and everyone I spoke to had a name which meant something, I love the idea of choosing a name for its' meaning rather than whether it sounds good!

My name is Rebecca - it means "a snare" in Hebrew. It's the wife of Isaac and the mother of Esau and Jacob in the Old Testament. Not sure why I was named this - but I do like my name.

My name is Athena. It's my father's name jumbled up (Ethan) with an A added to the end. Athena is also the name of the Greek goddess of wisdom (and other things too long to list here.)

My middle name is Rae, after my father's best friend, Raymond.

My daughter's name is Mara, after the Hindu goddess of Death (and also in rememberance of my maternal grandmother, Margaret.)

Great Sorrow -or- Goddess of Plague.

And I'm such a nice person, too! ;-)

Other origins say Polly is a variant of Molly, which is a variant of Mary. So, that case, I could be "Star of the Sea". I like that one better.

Yes, I really do like my name. It's old-fashioned but not too common anymore.

My name's VIOLETTA, which means 'a little violet' in Italian. So it belongs to a large group of names derived from the names of flowers (Rose, Violet, Iris and Lily just to name a few).

I love flowers, so I don't mind the name. Besides, it's quite a rare one and I like feeling unique. ;)

By the way, my distant namesake is IOLANTHE, which means 'violet flower' in Greek!

my name is Elena, and it means "the bright one"

It derives from the Greek name Heléne, Latinized into Helena or Helene, taken from hele meaning "splendor, vigor of the sun."
In Greek mythology Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda, whose kidnapping by Paris was the cause of the Trojan War.

I was called Sophie which apparently means wisdom, because my mum wanted me to be wise enough not to have an affair with a married man like she did. ^_^

I do actually quite like my name. I do now anyways. I hated it when I was at school.
