INGREDIENTS:
* 1 3/4 cup sifted cake flour
* 1 cup sugar
* 1/4 cup cocoa
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/3 cup shortening
* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 tablespoon vinegar
* 1 cup cold water
PREPARATION:
Sift dry ingredients together into a mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients and beat until almost smooth. Pour into a greased and floured 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Frost cake or serve with whipped topping

This cake is soooo good! Let it sit for a couple hours after icing.
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 cups white sugar

* 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 3/4 cup vegetable oil
* 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 2 cups cold water
1. Sift flour, sugar, salt, soda, and cocoa together into a 9 x 13 inch ungreased cake pan. Make three wells. Pour oil into one well, vinegar into second, and vanilla into third well. Pour cold water over all, and stir well with fork.
2. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until tooth pick inserted comes out clean. Frost with your favorite icing.

Chocolate Heart Cake
Ingredients
12oz self-raising flour
4oz Cocoa Powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
8oz sugar
4 floz vegetable oil
8 floz cold water
2 tsp vanilla essence
2 tsp vinegar
Mix together all of the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Mix all of the wet ingredients. Make a well in the bowl of dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Stir them together. Place into a heart shaped cake tin. Cook in a preheated 180 degree oven for 30 minutes or until a knife comes out clean. Cool on a cooling rack and decorate with vegan cream and strawberries.
If you only have a round or square cake tin, decorate the cake with heart shapes of cream.

What I do, I do my favorite cake recipe...only, instead of eggs. there is this box/powder stuff I buy from fred meyers health food section (or any health food store really) and it has the same binding action as eggs....I can't remember the exact name, but it says right on the box "substitute for eggs".
