I rode in a helicopter when I was in the Navy. I must say that landing on the back of a destroyer was a huge thrill.

Don't be afraid of it, they are very reliable, and a blast to fly in. Flew in Chinooks, Blackhawks and Kiowas ( Bell 206 ) in the Army. Was an Apache mechanic but anyone but 2 pilots in one of those is next to unheard of. Oh! The humanity! isn't making up stories either about what Army pilots will do. The craziest and best helicopter pilots around. Flying doors off is way cool! Especially following a road through the desert at 75' and 120 kts!

Hi Sheila, Yes i've been in a helicopter just last week whilst on a day trip with Quiksliver over the Great Barrier Reef @ Port Douglas. The flight costs around $160 Australian Dollars, Which is about £90. It well worth it as the feeling off adrenaline is amazing and it is so comfortable its just incredible. And the safest form off air travel. Good luck Darlin.

I fly in one everyday for work, and I still can't believe I get paid to do it. It is an incredible experience that never gets old. Each type of helicopter offers a different experience, but there really is nothing to be afraid of. You should be excited instead. For a truly awesome experience, ask the pilot to take your door off. I fly that way all the time and it is the only way to go. You get a truly unobstructed view and can get some awesome pictures. And no.......you won't fall out. Have fun!

I used to work for the US Government as a wildland fire fighter, and on 2 fires I was fighting, we were flown in via helicopter. It's known as helitacking into the fire. The first one was on a Huey and the second was a Bell. The Bell was a little smoother riding. Great fun though. Defiantely go if you get a chance.

Yes, they're great fun to be in. I've flown in a private helicopter, over the Cotswolds and a commercial flight to the Isles of Scilly. Would love to get a helicopter licence and a chopper of my own - dreaming of a large lottery win! Give it a go, you'll love it and your fears will soon disappear once you get going.

Yes...I was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot. I used to fly Hueys, Blackhawks, and Apaches. There's nothing like it! You get to fly low and land at some very odd places. Once we were flying near Death Valley, California and we were all very thirsty...so we landed at a convenience store to buy some drinks. Another time we stopped at a Burger King...but we had to go inside because we didn't fit in the drive-through lane. Sometimes we would fly very low and chase Army trucks.
I fly airplanes now...and they're are not nearly as fun as flying a helicopter....plus I have to wear a tie!

Yep, in high school our ROTC class was treated to a ride every year in one of those Army Huey personnel carriers. They held about 20 of us at a time. Really cool. The doors were open on both sides though, presumably to jump out, and that was a bit unnerving. I kept thinking someone was going to get to goofing around and push me out.

I've flown in one the sea king it was taking me back to my ship which had deployed before I got back to the pier. The trip wasn't rough but it was noisy as the sea king has no sound proofing insulation. the transmission was right above my head and dripping fluid which I found annoying. Otherwise all was well.
