Just get bins from your local recycling center and have each room do it individually. That sounds like the easiet way to me. Also, petitioning is a great way to make your voice heard.

Almost anything can be recycled. When I was in school we had Paper Drives, where anyone and everyone could bring their newspapers to recycle. Aluminum cans, plastic bottles, tin cans ... they are recyclable as long as they do not contain food particles. Bring up the idea at school meetings or to your teachers. Then write a proposal paper on how helping the environment can also help the school. EX: some places pay per pound for aluminum cans and that extra money can fund some great projects for the school like clubs and dances.

I lived for a long time in an area that recycled almost everything ,
Metal , paper , plastic , glass , yard cuttings and the city picked it all up.
I moved to a place where they are very irresponsible tho , but I can take paper, plastic and metal to a recycling center about 20 miles away.
I am sorry you have to live where the adults are not very responsible with the environment.
It is fabulous you are smart enough to know dumping junk into landfills is NOT good.
Organize as many friends and parents into signing a petition to recycle all soda cans & all metal, paper and as much plastic as you can.
Check your yellow pages for recycling locations or call your local mayor and government officials and ask where the recycling locations are.
You are wonderful, keep going !

Besides the paper and #2 plastic, you can also recycle the printer cartridges in your school. A lot of school PTA's actually have that as one of their fundraisers because there are companies that pay between $1 and $3 for each of those cartridges. The, in turn, recyle them and resell them. Our school makes over $300 a year doing this.

Remember that you can also "recycle" stuff like rotting veggies and fruit by starting a composting pile in your backyard. This actually helps your garden in the spring and summer with healthy soil.

Introduce them to Freecycle too. Since you can do much of it on the internet kids may be more likely to give it a go and there's the potential to get some good stuff too. I gave away a car and got a range hood and a dishwasher. Go to Freecycle.org to find one in your area and hook up with them. You'd be amazed what you can recycle this way.

As a starter, prove that there is a market for the recycled material. In many communities they just end up in the same landfill as everything else.

Paper plastic aluminum glass. take up a petition, students and parents. You should have a hard time finding someone who won't sign. Submit it to the school board.
