Clear scotch tape works great. Just tape the two ends together. Will be a little jumbled until it passes that spot.

Professional studio editors just use clear office tape. Just be sure to make the edges as cleanly cut as possible before joining them and put the tape on the back side - the side that does not touch the head.

oh man I remember having this problem. All I did was tie it together, and it continued to function. The only drawback was when if filmed to that part, it got fuzzy but then after it passed away it continued to play fine.
