Pets improve peoples health. They improve your mental well being as well.
I can understand after a loss especially like yours, that you may be apprehensive about getting another dog. You may even feel you are dishonoring you last dog.
I had a Sheltie that was snatched from my yard. He had been through two obedience schools and training for a person with disabilities. I was devasted. I knew I would never have a dog as smart, as loving, or as obedient as him. I was wrong.
My wife and I have two dogs that rival our feelings for our children. (they mind better than kids)
I think you should get another dog. (pit bulls are stolen as much or more than other dogs for the idiots that use them in fighting and the drug dealers) Get one you like that is good with your family and friends. Think about the type of home you live in and yard and time you have for it.
I asked our two Dachshunds about your problem and they said,"bark, bark, bark bark, bark bark barrrrrk!"
They agree you should get another.

The most compassionate thing to do would be to visit your local shelter or rescue society and adopt a dog. Make sure your pet has been altered so they won't contribute to the unwanted puppy population.

How was your dog stolen? Was in a secure yard/dog run or did it have the ability to wander freely? Are you certain it was stolen? Is there a particular reason that your dog was stolen (special breed, coloring, etc.)?

It depends on who stole your dog, if you know who it is or think you do, ask the authorities what options you have to get him or her back. If your dog has just gone missing, I'd try looking for it first, put up "lost dog" signs with a picture. Or post it up on craigslist with a picture, check any animal shelters nearby. (I've even gone door to door with a picture of my dog, asking anyone if they'd seen him). If your dog was stolen, I'd think twice about getting another one at the moment because there's obviously someone around who isn't relaiable, so your new dog might be in for the same thing. Good luck.

Wow! Sorry about your dog being stolen. That's sad.
I lost my puppy. Either he was stolen or he ran away.He wasn't in a pen or anything, he was free to play and do what he wanted. He had been here for months.
I'm going to get a dog and put it in a pen this time.
If you want to get another dog, but don't know if you should because someone could take he/she just put he/she in a pen and put an alarm on the pen. That's what I'd do.

Have you thought about adopting one of the many millions of unwanted dogs?? If you are particular about the breed, you CAN google the breed plus adoptions..... for example Beagle adoptions and you will be directed to sites that have your particular breed of dog for adoption. Many come with papers and you are not buying from a "puppy mill" who's sole purpose is to over breed a dog for profit. Save a puppy from euthanasia!!!

As for the "stolen" part.... have you thought that maybe the breed you are purchasing is like an expensive car? The more popular brands are targeted... you might consider having the vet put a chip in your dog so that you can locate him/her if he is lost or stolen. If you can afford that expensive of a dog, you can afford to "lojack" him!!!

Try waiting for a month or 2 to see if he/she returns home.
