control this by drinking copious amounts of Gatorade. However, this winter Gatorade has all but disappeared from the local markets. I read a recipe for a homemade drink like Gatorade, but lazily decided to buy it and didn't get the recipe. Does anyone have a formula that will help?

Just get potassium-chloride and use it as salt. It's marketed as nu-salt. Or you can find a link to home-made gatorade in the source I provide.
