Can I have a diff. company than my parents? When my brother got his license, my parents' auto insurance automatically billed them to add him to their policy, So what if I get insurance with another company, will my parents' company also bill them for me, giving me 2 coverages?

I live in WA if that makes a difference

I have a car and it's sitting on the front yard, I can drive if I haev a parent or someone w/ 5 years of driving exp. I wanna take it to get mods, and comprehensive insurance is always a plus for sitting cars.

Yes, you need a drivers license because the insurance company will run your record. If you are under age and live at home it will be cheaper to be added to your parents policy, but you can get your own if you prefer. No, you can't be covered twice.

In any case, if you have your own car you will need insurance on that car. Being added to your parents policy only means you are a covered driver driving THEIR car, not yours.

Why would you NEED insurance if you don't have a driver's license?

If you're on good terms with your parents, and you don't drive like an idiot, you might just make a deal with them to pay the difference in their insurance bill for having you on it. It would probably be significantly less than having your own insurance.

You want to be on their insurance. It would be much cheaper than if you were the primary on a policy(which I don't think you can be if you are under 18). Your parent's company did not automatically bill them for your brother and will not automatically bill them for you, they had to request he be added which they would have done if he drives their car.

If you are living with your parents you will be covered under their insurance. There is no need for you to get insurance on your own unless you do not live at their residence. If you live on your own in another state or another residence you will need to have a license to have the car insured under your name. I hope this answers your question.
