I love my Glocks, I have a Glock 22 and a Glock 23. Both are great. The 23 is slightly smaller and I shoot slightly better with it. My 22 has a streamlight tac light on it but both have rails for add ons. Both are 40. cal which is a great round. I have shot my gun successully after it was full of mud and dust, with only the barrel cleared first, after being submerged in water, covered in gun oil until it was dripping, etc. All of these were performance tests by my agency...not becuase I am an idiot, I promise.

They are simple, easy to maintain and shoot with out alot of undeeded safties. But then again, it is a combat gun and not one to sit in a night stand drawer. Most malfunctions occur with the Glock...and it does malfunction sometimes...easy to clear though.. becuase the shooter has a bad fireing platform which cuases the shooters wrist to move as the gun recoils, causing it to not properly eject the spent round...fatigue or stress, even lack of proper training are the root cause. That could happen to any gun.

Needles to say, I love my Glock and will carry nothing else while I work or play.

They are highly rated, but a weapon is chosen for what it must do. Economical alternatives are available. What caliber is very important, size of your hand, if it's a working weapon, or something for a drawer. The grips, the barrel length, type of sight, and all around symmetry play a big role in the final choice. A Desert Eagle is one large weapon firing Gods favorite caliber the 44 mag. But it goes all the way down the block even if you hit the target. The Colt Mustang with a .380 is OK at short ranges, with targets that can be killed easily.Really not enough horses to stop a house breaker with a load of Meth on. Taurus builds an excellent copy of the Beretta 92F. inexpensive, 9mm, But then again, knock down is not credible with a serious foe. The Glock chambered in 40 cal is very potent medicine. One of the best on the market. Worth the money. But look at the Smith&Wesson, 40 cal "Chief". Compact, hard hitting, a little cheaper. Good luck.

Glock has set the standard that others are trying to live up. That's not to say that several others manufacturers are not just as good or better in some areas, but Glock is tried and true. You can get all sorts of accessories and many calibers are interchangeable in the same frame with a simple barrel change.

Simple operation, dependable, easy to customize. Issued by my dept. and in my county the different depts issue Glock 22(5 dept's) or Hk P-7(1 dept) or Sig 226 (3 depts) nice thing about glock is here in the north if you got to hold it for a extended time out in the cold winter air , it will not freeze your hand like the steel framed guns. and as a duty gun it very lite weight ( we use to carry a S&W 4006). I compete with a model 35 in 40 cal that I put a bar stol barrel in and it is by far the most accurate pistol Ive ever owned shoots under 4in groups at 50 yards (no guys this aint bullseye its IPSC) and I cant ask for much better than that with out paying through the nose for a full house race gun.

Yes, if you are in the market to purchase a handgun. Go to the shooting range and try before you buy. Many shooting ranges and gun dealers want you to be comfortable and have experience with the weapon you are purchasing. You can often rent or borrow them before you buy. What matters most is the caliber of the weapon (you have a better chance of protecting yourself with a 9mm than a 22), how you plan to use the weapon, and if you can fire the weapon comfortably. I prefer to stay away from revolvers, I do not think they are good for personal protection. Sig is also a good manufacture.

For sheer reliability it is hard to beat the Glock. I have two objections to it.
1. It does not have a manual safety. I just like a manual safety, such as the one on a 1911.
2. Very little you can do to "personalize" the gun. My colt 1911 is engraved with scrimshawed ivory grips. My S&W 629 is engraved with inlaid rosewood grips. About the only way to do any custom touches to a Glock is to paint it..

super reliable, fastest trigger reset on the market, and maintenance is cheap and easy

But I don't think they are the "standard" outside of LE circles. The 1911 is the standard.

They're the best. Not as expensive as HKs, parts are cheap, they have different sizes/models, several accessories are available and the reliability is off the charts.

Glocks are OK for killing people but useless in the bush.

Glocks are nice, but Sig Sauer are the standard
