Because the old ones no longer apply. At this point, clinging on to the older values, created for a society that no longer exists ,would hinder development. Development is the reason behind the changing moral values.

Society has changed. Moral values must correlate with societal standards. Therefore, moral values have changed.

People grow and change, technology, education, and travel have changed our moral values. People are able to step outside of their world and see how a vast majority of other people live and experience new things in their lives. The Internet has connected everyone together.

In the past people grew up in small towns and stayed there. They learned only from the people around them so it was easier for things to stay the same longer.

Now that we have access to everyone things are changing quickly.

They've improved significantly. All but a couple of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence thought blacks were less than whites, and men were better than women. They believed this was God's law. Most of the revolutionaries weren't Benjamin Franklin, and even he said some pretty racist things against Native Americans in his autobiography. So, we've gradually (one step foreword, two back, etc.) improved as a humane people.

I don't think values have changed at all. We're just not old enough for a fair comparison of past times.

For example, if you read Josephus, you find stories of the same weird things going on during the Roman period that are going on now. When people are materially affluent, they get bored and try new things. When we're bombarded by other value systems we compromise our own to be "fair". It's human nature.

Because they took God and prayers away from society. People have no morals and values to get an example from. God is who gave us a conscience, without that? well. someday people won't care what is right or wrong, they won't care who they hurt, because the golden rule has been broken apart. If it means anything, there are still a few of us who will not let society or government take away my morals and values, we can only hope that there are enough of us to pass down through our children, and future generations...

And glad it has. Gee people can all drink from the same water fountain, sit where they want on the bus, women can vote, ect, ect. The good old days is a myth. I wouldn't want to go back in time to racist, sexist, society. The reason it has changed is because people are more educated. Societies values are not declining, they just aren't on par with the Christian values anymore. So what if they aren't. Culture is not stagnant, it has always been a changing process and as far as i'm concerened the more we accept in learn the better is going to get.

Societal values are a merely reflection of the make up of those who are most successful of promoting their will.

Morality suffers as a result of Man's departure from integrity.

When we are all born, we have integrity. We are also given the light of Christ (conscience) to aid us in discerning that which is true. As we maintain our integrity through relying on conscience we strengthen that ability and progress. As we choose to depart from integrity, and deny conscience (the light of Christ), we diminish that ability and are left to rationalize the faulty wisdom (or lack there) of man and choose to damn (stop the progress) our selves.

It is improving but has a long way to go. I could not believe the crap that happened we saw Janet Jackson's breast for 2 seconds. Give me a break.

We need to get Christian idiotic morals out of our laws once and for all!

women are free to think on our own and that suprises and still disturbs some people. we aren't living in such an innocent time anymore and people do crazy/stupid things. Racial differences are starting to get better but still isn't fully distroyed. Kids aren't talking to their parents about school anymore they are leaning towards gangs and depression.
