Any suggestions on what type of houseplant I can buy that my cat's won't get into. I'm worried they will dig in the dirt and make a mess.

Try getting one of those little wheat grass kits along with the houseplant of your choice. Our cats love them and chew them to bits - which is healthy for them - and as a result ignore all the other plants in the house.

You'd be better off buying plants & putting them in hanging baskets. (Ivys, ferns, etc) Wal*Mart has a nice selection of hanging baskets all made up or you can buy the baskets & do it yourself. When buying plants, make sure to read the tag to see what type of light they need.(direct/indirect) Ferns do well in the bathroom because of the humidity but they still need to be misted often with a spray bottle, in between waterings.

Enjoy!!!

well it's not really the plant that they like its the dirt. I put rocks , good size ones on the top of the soil and little ones in the smaller plants.

try the rock thing. i think that works best because it is the dirt they seek.... digging and often using it for the bathroom. detour them by using rocksor other colorful stones.... whatever suits your decor.
