I'm mainly interested in using one brand of multi-purpose disinfectant solution and a saline solution to rinse the contacts, which is a DIFFERENT brand. I've read that you shouldn't mix different brands of contact lens solutions, but does that apply to saline solutions as well? I figure that all saline solutions should basically be the same so...is it safe?

Saline is saline (just salt and sterile water), no matter what brand name it has on the packet, so yes its safe to use.

You can vary your contact lens solutions if you just be very careful that if you wear soft contact lenses, the product specifies it is for soft contact lenses; similarly if you hard contact lenses, or extended-wear lenses, etc., make sure the package cites that the product is fine for that particular KIND of contact lens. The exact "make" of lens won't matter.

Take the contacts out and let your eyes rest. I would go back to the eye doctor and let them know that you are not adjusting to the contacts. My contacts did that for a little while and still my eyes turn red if I work on the computer too long.
