I was just wondering, at what time do you think a child should stop eating whatever thay want and start eating healthy so they can have that body they will want when they are older. Also any suggestions on what is best to encourage them to do so. Thanks alot.

Also... A time to stop them so that they can enjoy the food adults on diets steer away from, but not to late to make it their favorite food.

Rather than stopping them eating junk, why let them start! Get them eating healthy foods from the introduction of solids and train their taste to the "good" foods.
I believe its very hard to change habits and it can be difficult to persuade a child if they dont want to change. It has to be a decision they make.

The day the child is born. Fast food restaurants should be a treat and not expected. Treat the child to a burger and fries only a couple times a month if that. If you don't take them there then they cant eat it so stay at home and cook experiment with different recipes and you will find something that they like just as well. Get the child involved in food preparation they will enjoy it more if they had a part in making it.

No time like the present. Studies have shown that the earlier one learns how to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet, the easier it is for a person to stay at a healthy weight as an adult.

Start from the food pyramid site (charts there are specific to gender and ages), and then try to figure out how to incorporate it into your lifestyle. Don't get too frustrated... it can take a couple months for this to become second nature. Biggest help is to really plan out a days/week's worth of food, make a list, and stick to it. If the kids won't eat, don't worry about it - they will eat eventually. Encourage them to eat by eating it yourself! Kids really look at their parents for guidance.

And, don't write off McDonald's completely. If you make it taboo, you make it appealing.

As early as possible. Eating habits stick with kids and it's hard to stop them. Teach them that they should eat healthy foods, but having McDonalds and junk food is okay every once in a while.

My friend has cousins who have grown up eating junk food all the time (like chips for breakfast, cake for lunch, ice cream for dinner). And if they even attempt to eat vegetables or fruit, they throw up. Their immune systems are horrible and they never have any energy. And because they always throw up when they eat healthy, it's harder for them to change their eating habits. eek.

whenever possible. It is important for them to have a healthy diet. because when they get older, it sucks to have to diet because of your early childhood. But fast food every once in a while is definatley fine. Dont overdue this eaither by stocking the whole food in your house to fruits and vegtables, they should have a little bit of everything.

they should never start the fast food thingy -- high fat, high salt, high french fry and soda diets aren't good at any age... and they will always struggle with their health if they don't get a good foundation from early childhood.

they will start to take responsibility for their own health and looks when they get educated about the effects of their food in elementary school and from the television shows they see.

once they are about 13, they start to become aware that they are in control of what they eat, and they start making choices in the cafeteria and start demanding at home.
