Where Does A Cactus Live

Depends on the cactus.... a large saguaro doesn't even usually put out an arm until age 75, so some with many arms are 300 years old...They are the biggest cactus, and just magnificent, growing in Sonoran Deserts of Arizona, and Mexico

The cactus mentioned by the guy above in Namibia is not a cactus, but a plant called a Welwitschia at is distantly related to palms... Hugely interesting, and every botanist's dream to see one. Agave plants, are not cacti, but in fact are related to lilies.

Depends on the kind and conditions, but they're pretty hardy.

I saw "century plants" or some kind of agave (Agavaceae--the hemp and yucca family) bloom when I graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville. I don't know how long their blooming cycle was, but they were unreal--some of the flower stalks were over two stories high. So big I couldn't fit them in pictures. They weren't blooming, and then a few days later, this crazy stalk had shot up out of almost all of them around town and it was absolutely amazing.

I don't know how to predict when they bloom, but if you can catch it, definitely hang around and watch. It's magical.

They say Saguaros can live for centuries. There's also a species of Yucca called "the century plant" because it only blooms once in a century. It must last quite awhile too.
