Oh my, those people who are saying it was a waste are wrong! Lol. I've had mine for 2 years and it's wonderful! The only reason it's hard is because it's ALWAYS centered (usually we tend to travel at least a little bit when we're actually on ice). I love my spinner. The only place I have seen them (they're from Jerry's Skate wear but they must be bought through a dealer) is Ebay.
Spinners are hard to get used to, but it REALLY helps with backspins. It isn't incredibly helpful with forward spins, but with backspins it's the best! When I was first learning backspins, I had a lot of trouble keeping it centered and balanced. A spinner is a great way to practice them while you're off ice and/or not at the rink.
Also, I'd recommend getting the square one. There are round ones, but I have the square one so that's what I recommend. It could be possible that the round spinner works better, but I've never used one so I wouldn't know.
I hope this was a lot of help to you! :-)
Here are some places on Ebay to get them(square):

I disagree with these other people. I use my spinner frequently and have seen some improvements in my spins, jumps, and footwork.
Its very helpful because you HAVE to stay on the ball of your foot while spinning since if you don't you'll spin off the spinner! Unlike on the ice where you can shift your weight in a spin and you just travel on the ice. It is harder to do because of that.
Look at a skate shop to buy one, they come with instructions so that will help.

Ok, I think you are quite confused by now with the mixed response on whether to get a spinner. The thing is, it seems to work for some people but not be of any help at all for others. I suggest you buy it from a skate shop near your ice rink. At least you can get to try them to see if it is good for you.

I wouldn't buy one either. I have one and I'm very good at spinning on it but it does not help my spinning on the ice. It is kind of like spinning on the ice, but it is a little harder at first and I don't think it helps and all you can really do on it is backspins. It was a waste of money and they are very expensive. If you really want one though, I think they have them online at rainbosports.com.

ihad a spinner... they arent really hard to use.. the problem is that you MUST keep your center of gravity straight up and down while spinning or you will be thrown from the spinner... also you have to watch out tha it doesnt jam up and once again throw you off (litterally)... otherthan that they arequite useful and help you with your balance/ centering while spinning... and to use them is hav one foot on the spinner and plant your other foot...wind up and go as per usual... not sure where you could go to look for one though... i got mine from a skating boutique...
