Ummm... Florida certainly has property taxes on homes, and I believe that while Texas doesn't have a state property tax, the counties assess property taxes. Florida doesn't have a personal property tax on cars like they do up north...I like that!

Every area of the country has a property tax and/or levy of some sort. It appears that some of those answering are confusing property and income tax or possibly because they are referring to personal property tax (autos, boats, etc.). Note that these states have no income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming while New Hampshire and Tennessee impose income tax only on dividends and interest.

States don't impose property taxes. Cities, Towns and Counties do, however.
I'm not aware of any that don't impose some form of property tax but given that there are tens of thousands of potential tax authorities nationwide there could be one or two that have found another way to assess the cost of government from their residents.
And please ignore the poster that says there aren't property taxes in Texas! I owned property in TX for may years and can tell you without reservation that TX property taxes are some of the highest in the nation! TX (and FL) to not impose income taxes so they have to get their $$$ somehow and property taxes are the principal way of doing that in both TX and FL.
My TX property taxes were more than 5x higher than my MO property taxes were!

no matter where you live you will always have to pay property taxes to live there as you can't get out of that.
I have several relatives in texas and they all complain about property taxes and have friends in florida who have places and they also have to pay taxes so your misinforming people.

I'm pretty sure most municipalities impose property taxes. Sometimes they call them Ad Valorem taxes, but they're just being creative.
