I sympathize. Try one of these tricks:
-Use panteene ProV when conditioning. Its got a wax base, so your hair will be calmer.
-Blow dry your hair with a defuser. When your hair dries naturally, it ends up being heavier in the end.
-Use a shine serum
-Straighten your hair with a porceilin flattener
-A good stylist can style your hair so the extra weight is gone. Ask for layers, or even to "thin" your hair a bit, and yur hair will look great.
Hope this helps!

I have thick hair also and hate it. What I have done that helps is when I go to get my hair cut I inform her of my hair type and ask to thin it out. I have hair past my shoulders so they usually cut a lot of long layers in it and do some other techniques that really help. You can also ask the stylist what hair styles and products would work best for your type of hair. I also use mouse which helps weigh down my hair. I have a Chi flat iron which gets hotter than the cheap ones and is worth the extra cash. I use Nexus Heat Protexx in my hair before using the flat iron which helps keep your hair from getting frizzy. Also to comment on a previous answer about using pantene, never never use pantene it has the same ingredients as the 2/$1.00 shampoos.

Use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. It actually makes hair strands thinner and reduces drying time. It also give your hair shine and makes it so soft. I really love this product because I have poofy, wavy hair and it makes my hair much more manageable. You should definitely give it a try.( You can find it at salons or stores like Ulta.)

You can get it layered. That way you keep the length you like but it's not so thick & heavy.
