The bow that you ultimately choose will be the one that fits you the best. Try many, and one will "just click" with you. Regardless even if it's a couple of years old. The used bows available with an outfitter are usually gone through thoroughly adjusted as needed and maybe even new strings installed, you will get many years of use out of even a "previously loved one." There are a wide variety of sizes, limb styles draw lengths, weights and let off percentages to choose from. Be sure to look for one that will adjust up in weight as your arm strengthens. Then accessories, sights, rest, peep, maybe a kisser button, d-ring, quiver, arrows and release can then be fitted for the bow and set for your particular needs. I have been bow hunting for several years now and bought my bow second hand, took it to my local archery dealer, had it tuned and ever since, I will not part with it. I am NOT ENDORSING brands at all, but mine happens to be a PSE Nova, left handed, with a 55 pound pull and 26 1/2" draw. Mine offers a 70% let off at full draw. Mine shoots at 282 fps which is rather slow in comparison to the top heavily advertised brands. Novas are available in several different poundages and draw lengths. There are a variety of bows that are made this way. Best thing is to go to an outfitter and try the ones closest to your wants and needs and pick the one you like the best for your shooting style and budget. The other key is practice, practice until you get your form and consistancy right. You might be as well to take a few lessons from an experienced archer and let him help you get your form down, then keep on it everyday if you can until you can group well, then keep on practicing. It's amazing how if you don't shoot for awhile how much you can shoot all over the place until you settle down again. Hope this helps, I love shooting and hunting with my bow.

Just about all the bows made in the last ten years work perfectly well. I got my first deer with a 25 year old bow.

I believe PSE (Precision Shooting Equipment) is the best compound bow manufacturer. they not only have there own line but also own AR (Archery Research) and also Browning Archery! PSE has been one of the biggest innovators of modern archery for the past 30 plus years.

Well I shoot Darton so that's what I am gonna go with. The reason its the best is because its been in business for a long time. They are smooth shooting bows and I have talked to other archers who agree. Darton bows have also been recommended in many magazines is a great bow to shoot with. They may not always be the best of the best, but they are the best for your buck

MOST IMPORTANT ANSWER:
Go to a local archery shop and have the PROS ask you a bunch of questions. Then start narrowing down the field. It's just like picking a car, or golf clubs. You have to find someone who knows more that you to help, then start thinking about a model.... my grandma wouldn't want to buy a Dodge 4X4 diesel, just because it had the best cargo room, would she?

I shoot a PSE and it is pretty good, but if I had the money I would buy a Mathews or a Hoyt.

Which ever bow you can kill the beast with. Kill the beast but keep it's spirit alive.
