Christianity has been over for a hundred years now. When something so small as a light bulb goes out, the eyes for a moment see it. So it is not at all strange that when something so huge as a world religion goes out, there remains for a century or more in certain places some notion that it is still there. Indeed it might flare up brightly just before the end.
We cannot progress further until we are mature enough to believe in ourselves and not a fictional character.

I do appreciate you capitalizing God out of respect, but just so you know, singular "God" is one person, when you refer to gods, i.e. - many gods, it does not have to be capitalized.
Back to your question - maybe you are right, maybe; it is good to believe in yourself (in the sense that you are not hindered by fear). Even if that were true though, mankind would then only progress in a way that could quite easily be immoral and unpleasing. Once we get off this short stint on Earth - then what? We Christians believe in Heaven, therefore life on Earth is simply a precursor. If we progressed very far in our Earthly form, that would mean exactly squat when we died, so it really doesn't matter. If we progressed our whole life without God, we would all end up in Hell...I would much rather spend eternity up in Heaven then have a wonderful earthly life and end up in Hell.
Just my opinion; It is likely I will get 10 thumbs down fom those who do not agree with my views though - and I am O.K. with that, because I am comfortable with my faith.

Even if all the world decided to adopt a God free living, somehow, someone, somewhere will decide to look up for something else that is higher, better, infalible and merciful; some deitiy that will give man and woman hope during times of need, sickness, desperation. It is also easier to explain the unexplainable as a "devine" act.
Men and women has forever demonstrated their need to have a superior being (or several of them) that will take care of things or will give them comfort, senseless as it might be. Human nature cannot cope with their weak existence and they try to explain it as a "devine" making.
But, believing in ourselves should not be dependent on faith on a higher being. That's what man and woman will have to achieve in the future. Regardless of the many faiths worldwide, some of which will survive, faith in oneself and tolerance for other's beliefs must be the standard of a civilized coexistence.

In the 21st century, time to start believing in ourselves is now.
As John Lennon's said:
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people,
Living for today,
Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
And no religion too,
Imagine all the people,
Living life in peace,
You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope someday you'll join us,
And the world will be as one,
Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people,
Sharing all the world,
You may say I'm a dreamer,
But I'm not the only one,
I hope someday you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
Our species would be better off if we all decided to embrace education and science in favor of some mythological deity such as God.

No Gods= sacrifices of animals and humans
believe in weird stuff
Killing for weird reasons etc...
Look at the past and some present civilizations for examples of sacrifices, cannibalism, killing of girls, killing of women etc...
Gods= Weirds stuff too...BUT...some society rules, that make some sense, sometimes, but a safer society then society without any morals in place
I think a good future is a future with a touch of Gods and a touch of believing in ourselves.

Definitely without. I think we would be much more highly advanced as a whole were there never any religions. Religion works like an easy way out of answering questions about ourselves and our world that makes too many brilliant minds too clouded with ignorance to study processes in nature that we would benefit from.

I think definitely without. There are too many people who use gods and religion as an excuse for their hatreds and prejudices. True progress can only come about when we believe in ourselves and respect others' humanity.

Depends on what you mean by "a god". Unless you define this term, and also make clear your assumption about whether he/she/it intervenes in the cosmos, is separate, etc. all manner of questions of this nature become meaningless and at most a soap box for everyone's personal religions.

False dichotomy. Believing in a deity and believing in oneself are not mutually exclusive. The world will continue to advance, and religion will continue to exist.
