It depends on a number of factors, like the cut of meat, if the grill is covered or uncovered, the outside temperature, charcoal or gas, etc.
There is a cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com where you can enter the details and it will give you specific instructions for how to grill a 2 inch steak medium rare.
Also, be sure to let the meat come to room temperature for 20-30 minutes before grilling, and allow it "rest" for at least 5 minutes after grilling to allow the juices to settle back into the meat.
Sounds yummy.

It depends on the grill. if you're using a gorge foreman type deal. about the time you turn and rip off a fart your steak is done.
It depend on how thick the meat is, your is 2 inches. mmmm makin my mouth water.
It will take a few minutes. It depend on the conditions.
Like the heat you have.
How far it is from the flames.
and even the cut and quality of meat can be a factor
Best thing I think is to get the steak close to the heat as possible to sear both sides, and then back it away and let it cook. with practice you can judge the donnes by pressing on the meat and looking at the color of the juice and how the meat gives as it is pressed. and do not keep turning it over.
If there is no juice and it's hard you have just ruined a good piece of meat.

If your grill is nice and hot, a 2 inch steak will take about 4 minutes on each side to get to medium rare. Do you really mean a 2 inch steak? That's very thick, as thick as 4-6 slices of bread stacked up, depending on how thick the bread slices are.
