Either one would be kind of like tunnel vision. The 8x or 10x refers to the magnification power. Either one of them would give you a pretty good close up view of things and the 10x might even be TOO close for you. It gets hard to hold the binoculars still enough when they reach 10x. (I have a pair of 10x50 that is my principal binocular and I'm jus tfine with a little bit of shakiness most of the time.) The 21 or 25 refers to the diameter of the larger lens. Neither one if very big and suggests that these are compact binoculars. You can definitely look at one object at a distance using them, but you wouldn't want to try to watch a football game or follow an airplane at an air show, for instance. You'd be happier with an objective (lens) that is about twice that size, like 42 to 50 mm.

Go to Orion Telescope's learning center and see if that helps.

You can find other links there to check out prices. You will find that even their "lower priced" Scenix binoculars are quite decent binoculars and you can get either 7x50 or 10x50 for $100. If you want waterproof binocs, their 8x42 Trailhead's at $130 are pretty decent. If you want cheaper and smaller, look at their "Compact" binoculars and you'll find some for $25 and $60. I have seen the $25 set and even these are fairly good quality, but just have a narrow field of view. I've seen other brands in the under-$100 price range that are horrible, even compared to Orion's really cheap binoc's.
