It depends on the writer that you have on your computer.
If it is a DVD-RW (DVD Writer), then you can burn to CDs(CD+r) and also DVDs (DVD+r).
If you only have a usual CD writer, then you can only use CDs to burn your movies. But why not buy a DVD writer? they don't cost too much.

If you have a CD drive, you can't use DVD disks in it. You'll need a DVD drive to do that.
If you have Nero's burning software, you can probably shrink the movie down to CD -size, and use an ordinary CD with your drive to burn it.

It could be that you have a -R standard drive. Or you have have a DVD-ROM drive. If you have just a CD drive, you won't be able to burn movies onto a DVD disk. I wouldn't recommend burning movies to CD's either. You might have to spring for a DVD drive if you don't have one.

IF you have a DVD-R, you have what you need. You cannot burn a DVD to a CD. What people don't realize is that typically commercial DVDs are coded so you can't just copy them. They won't let you...... so it may not be your software at all - it depends on what you're trying to copy.
