Sarah couldn't have children, so Abraham's servent Hagar was sent to him to have his first born son. So why did he sacrifice his son with Sarah and not his first born from Hagar. Because in the bible it says his FIRST BORN was to be sacrificed.

The Bible refers to Issac as his "only" son and God specifically tells him to sacrifice Isaac. Now the reason is that Ishmael was born according to the flesh and not by Sarah whereas God tells Abraham the promised seed would be born legitimately to him and Sarah and so Isaac was the only true son according to the promise.

Ishmael was long gone by the time this sacrifice was asked for. Isaac was a full grown man, in is 20's when Jehovah asked Abraham to do this.
Another reason is because Sarah was the free woman and not a slave. It didn't mater later in the Jewish history if the first born was from a wife or concubine, but at this time, it was the first born of the free woman who would have inherited the double portions of Jehovah's blessing.

God instructs Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. yet on the perfect second he's stopped through an angel and advised to sacrifice a goat somewhat. In rabbinic texts and in Jewish liturgy, the episode has the identify Aqedah ("binding"), and is interpreted as a perfect self-sacrifice through Isaac that atones for the sins of his descendants. In Genesis, although, no reason is given for God's call for that Abraham could sacrifice his son. The emphasis lies on the poor project that the lack of existence of his son poses to the continuation of the line of Israel. It also promises Abraham as a paragon of righteous obedience, for which he's rewarded with a divine blessing. In 2 respects the tale serves as an explanatory delusion. in accordance to Hebrew regulation, the firstborn offspring of human beings and animals had to be provided in sacrifice to God yet, interior the case of human beings, an animal sufferer will be substituted. The episode explains the beginning of this custom and likewise the beginning of the position-call Yahweh-yireh (traditionally rendered Jehovah Jireh). that is asserted to signify "Yahweh will grant", touching on the ram that develop into given through God. This follows a progression that takes position typically interior the Bible, in which a particular position is authenticated as sacred via what's frequently called a theophany, a manifestation of the deity.

Promised son, not first son! Abraham and Sarai did not keep faith and went to maidservant Hagar and had a son. He WAS NOT the promised son. Promised son was Issac, he was the one that was going to be sacrificed and he is the one to inherit God's promise to Abraham.

I don't think God recognized the son born by Hagar as the legitimate heir. The Bible names Issac.

Because it had to be the valid heir--Isaac --as was told by the angel, to Sarah. That was God's arrangement

--Sarah jumped the gun for Hagars child, she was mistaken

This question sparks much controversy.

The first born was Ishmael, but jews didnt like him very much because they were forever clashing with his offspring, the arabs.

So my guess is , its a very deep rooted hatred that has found its way to the bible canon.
