The "Bible" is a conglomeration of stories passed down by word of mouth and eventually converted to writen form. In order to compose the writen text,it was necessary to draw on many various local oral interpretations. Each having its own viewpoint as to Truth.
Secondly, until recent times the majority of people were illiterate. Religion was ordained by the wealthy and powerful. The Bible was translated and slanted to suit those in power at the time. Example; King James.
As literature the Bible is truely a wonderful creation. As a literal
explaination of "All that is" it is no more difinitive than Dante"s "Inferno"

The following circular reasoning is routinely employed by Christians
Atheist: How do you know that the bible is true?
Xian: Because it is the word of God, who is perfect
Atheist: But how do you know it is the word of God?
Xian: Because it says so in the Bible
Now the Bible clearly isn't perfect, as it is completely riddled with errors, inconsistencies, repetition, contradiction, and just plain absurdities. To claim that God, wrote the imperfect Bible means that either God really isn't perfect, or that the Bible wasn't really written by him. In any case, it is NOT by any stretch a proof of God.

If I handed you a book written all about some other god, full of stories and laws and all and told you it was proof that the christian god was false and this other god was real - would you think it was proof?? Why not? It says so right in the book.
Some people simply don't believe that one poorly written contradictory book written by several men over thousands of years proves anything.

because if the Bible isn't 100% true then nothing it says can be taken as 100% true - so it can't prove itself
people also point out things in the Bible that contradict each other like:
Who is the father of Joseph?
MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.
Who was at the Empty Tomb? Is it:
MAT 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
MAR 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
JOH 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Jesus' last words

All that is proven by the bible is the fact that people can be controlled by a teaching that has no crediblity/ logic attached to it. Nothing in the world can support that any of it is true according to the biblical account.

For the same reason I wouldn't expect people who don't believe in evolution to accept Darwins "The Origin of Species" as proof.

God is real because He has made a difference in my life. All these people who keep saying things about how it's just a book can say it and believe it all they want to, but they can't ever deny what has happened in your life. They can never deny your story. That is how you know God is real. I know He is He has helped me everyday of my life.
