Generally speaking, most people will advise you to not feed human food to your dog. Unless you are preparing a home cooked meal from a nutrionally balanced pre-mix (available from quality pet food stores) I would recommend not feeding your puppy human food as its *primary meal*.

Puppies and adult dogs can have human food as treats (preferably used when training them), in moderation. If your dog is overweight, reducing their caloric intake is important. Assuming you have healthy, good weight dogs, you can offer them small amounts of many foods that humans eat.

Examples of foods you can offer your dog:
Steak, chicken, salmon, tuna, pasta, fruit (except grapes/raisins), sweet peppers, zuchini, kale, pumpkin, tomato, cooked and finely shredded vegetables.

Examples of foods you can NOT offer to your dog:
Mushrooms, grapes, raisins, garlic cloves, salt, tomato leaves, macademia nuts, chocolate, onions, soy.

Examples of foods you should avoid offering your dog (but generally won't cause medical illness if you do):
Raw vegetables (they can't digest cellulose, thus it strains their digestive system), bread and other sugary or rich carbohydrates, anything high in salt.

As for the bones issue: you can give your dog raw meaty bones in moderation. You can NOT give them cooked bones, at all, ever. If you want to feed raw bones as treats (as opposed to being a primary raw feeder), I recommend you purchase beef marrow bones from your grocery store. Freeze the bones. Once they are frozen, you can take one out, scoop out 75% of the marrow (it's too rich for most dogs and will lead to diahrrea), and allow them to have it, under supervision. Do not heat it up or defrost it. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw meat bones.

Variety in a dogs diet is good for them (avoids induction of food allergies) and gives them interest in training and bonding with you. Good luck!

Raw meat and raw bones are perfectly fine to give a dog. Dogs and their ancestors have been eating raw for hundreds of thousands of years. If raw meat and bones were as dangerous as some people claim, they would have died out before mammoths, woolly rhinos, and neanderthals did. The amount of bacteria on a raw piece of meat or raw bone is the same as the amount of bacteria on kibble. Kibble is mainly grain and dogs have no dietary requirement for carbohydrates. Most of the kibbles on the market use 4D meat, which can include euthanized shelter animals (dogs and cats). Some worry about parasites, but if their grocery store is actually selling contaminated meat...they should be calling the health department.

No human food! Also cooked bones not ones from raw meat. Stay away from chicken bones as they are dangerous for the dog to digest.

You want to keep your dog or puppy on dog or puppy food! Also it should be a healthy food not a food containing corn, wheat, beef, fillers or by products. As those things are hard for the dogs to digest.

Natures Recipe is a great food and all natural. It helps cut down on shedding, bad breath and the amount of stool produced.

** Hot Chic ** - you must not ever, EVER give a dog cooked bones! It is outrageous that you'd ever suggest such a thing!!! Cooked chicken bones = dead dog.

The greatest percentage of your pup's diet shoud be dog food. Innova, Evo, Flint River Ranch, Canidae, Wysong, Wellness, California Natural, Merrick, even Nutro and Nutro Max are all good brands.

I use a lot of treats in my training and I like to use simple things : boiled chicken is great for treats. I also use cheese, salmon, diced deli cuts (roast beef, ham, turkey). My food co-op has salmon jerky so I use that but very sparingly. I don't ever use anything that's got any onion in it.

Well for puppies you cant give them any people food until they are at least one year olds. For adults you cant give them raw meat it has to be fully cooked just like us. A dog cant really chew through solid bone they only use so they can keep there teethe healthy and tough.

None. I'd stick to the pet store bought food & treats specifically made for dogs with their health needs in mind.

I had a cat that used to beg for "human food". At the time I was young & didn't know how bad it could be for him. He ended up being about 20 lbs & died of diabetes. I still can't live down the guilt. I'm older & smarter now & I feed my 2 cats by the book with a rule of NEVER giving them table scraps of any kind.

Dogs may be different, but I wouldn't want to risk my "best friend's" health or safety.

dogs eat anything
they don't drink anything we do only water&milk
puppies shouldn't be given bones cuz they might choke, they should only eat milk, water, puppie chow until they get older
older dogs eat anything u give them even all bone (i think)
i think u should feed ur dog different foods, not the same thing over and over
other than that they eat anything we give them
if u give ur dogs bones u should watch them eat just in case they rush it down and choke

its prob not a good idea to give them people food at all. I have worked with animals for over 2 years and studied them as well. However if they have an upset stomach or a stomach virus, Rice is good for them...but just plain..no salt or butter or anything like that. Cooked ground beef and cooked chicken is also good for them..Lots of protien. Make sure though that you stay away from chocolate *duh* and onions and tomatos....I have also heard that grapes are bad for dogs...if you have to give them any people food research the web for people food that is poisones to dogs to make sure you steer clear of anything that could harm them.

Doon't feed them people food. Lots of dogs develop skin allergies from people food and become itchy and miserable. DOn't give them bones from raw meat either as its easy to pass on bad bacteria that will make them extremely ill.

It's not good to feed dogs human food. But, you can take a bone (not small) like pork rib and take the sauce off (keep the meat) and you can feed it to them.
