Hi All!

I was going to do my taxes today, but I had a question about a W-2 that I need your help with. I just started a new job on December 20th, 2006-----will I be getting a W-2 from them even though I only worked for them for 11 days, and my first paycheck wasn't until January 1st, 2007? Thanks!! :)

You will not get one. The date that pay is reported is based on the pay date, not the work period. If the check is dated in December and you received it in January it is last year but if the check is dated January then it is this year.

I could not find the exact reference on the IRS site but here is the quarterly requirements for an employer. It would be the same.

Your liability for employment taxes occurs when you actually pay the employees their wages, not when the pay period ends. For example, if your pay period ends September 24th, but you do not pay the employees until October 1st, their wages would be reported in the fourth quarter, when you actually became liable for the tax, not the third quarter when the pay period ended.

No you won't get one unless you received the check in the year 2006. It will be put on your 2007 W2. I hope this helps.
