My question mainly concerns how this relates to Jesus' coming as foretold in the Book of Revelation. I am approaching this question from a Christian perspective. I also have a question about the 144,000 who are sealed according to Chapter 7 of Revelation. Who are the 144,000, and what will they do upon Jesus' second coming? When there should be so many more saved Christians what distinction is being made for this small number?

I realize these are not easy questions, but they are important.

The Second Coming of Christ is in two phases. 1) the Rapture of the Church followed by seven years of Tribulation (3 1/2 years Tribulation and 3 1/2 years of Great Tribulation). 2) the Second Advent of Jesus is when He comes to set up His Kingdom upon this earth and rule and reign for 1,000 years. The 144,000 sealed are Jews who come to believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Messiah and Savior. They become the evangelists during the 7 year period of Tribulation. People are converted during this time period but only if they do not take the mark of the beast and they will be beheaded. The 144,000 sealed are not the only ones "saved" during this time - it just mentions them specifically because of the important role they play in spreading the Gospel in the earth when the Church is taken out of here.

The Second Advent is the time spent preparing before the coming of Christ, which would be now.

As for the question about the 144,000, I did some research on this and have spoken to theologens of the time period and this is their answer.

The perfect number, the most holy number during that time was/is 12. There are 12 tribes, 12 apostles, ect... So a number that is more perfect that twelve would be 144 because that's 12 x 12.

The translation of 144,000 is 144 nil, which means infinite. So therefore 144,000 is the number which means infinite.

Well based on what I remember I think between the 3 of them; "Ray W"," wd", and "justice" seem to have it right. The distinction of the 144,000 is that they are all Israelites and have the gift of evangelism.

But I wonder if you are thinking that this group is the firstfruits for evangelism to the world once the Church has been raptured. And that to me would make sense. I think the enormity of the rapture will stun the world. Mercifully God leaves the world a people that will preach his word even though the church has been raptured. So 144,000 evangelists at one time immediately afterwards all over the world would empower the world to resist the evil one and for many to turn to Christ.

Now of course the question comes how come these were not raptured with the church? Did they not believe in Christ so they were left behind? And the answer is simple. These have a special calling or mission that the church does not have that will only occur after the rapture. It will once again show that once Jesus who was a Jew and from the nation of Israel gave the only salvation message to the world. But once again these people from the same nation will be witnesses once again that the salvation gospel comes from this nation and be spread through all the world.
.
It's very interesting to me also in Revelations 14 "3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth."

They get to sing a song in heaven that no one earth get to sing. Also what's interesting is in verse one "And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads."

So that automatically set them apart to oppose the Antichrist who will compel everyone on earth to have his mark on their forehead or hand in order to buy or trade.

The nation of Israel in today's events is so important before and after the rapture of the church and the tribulation period. That is why we are told to pray for the peace of Israel.

Well those are just my thoughts Reverend. I'm curious to see yours.

All I can give you scripture answers. The Lord Jesus Christ comes at the end of the seven year period called the great tribulation This is some times called the Second Advent. Revelation 19: 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
Who are the 144,000? Revelation 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
The Christians that are in the body of Christ (the church) have been caught off the earth before the seven year wrath begins and are not part of the wrath of God that is poured out during that period. God is only dealing with the Nation of Israel and that prophecy is given in the Book of Daniel. The body of Christ (the church) will meet the Lord in the air. 1 Thessalonians 4: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 1: 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. So unless you wish to go though the wrath of God put you faith and trust in the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins and that He was buried and took your sins away and that He rose again the third day for your justification. Believe and trust in that and you to will meet Him in the air before the wrath of God is poured out. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Christians call the time of Christ's Second Advent the Last Days. Christians thinnk they are living in the Last Days today.

According to Christians, today is truly the time of Christ's return. From the standpoint of providential history, Jesus came at the conclusion of the two-thousand-year-long Old Testament Age, the Age of the Providence of Restoration.

The Principle of Restoration through Indemnity leads Christians to infer that Christ is to return at the end of the two-thousand-year-long New Testament Age, the Age of the Prolongation of the Providence of Restoration, which has been restoring the previous age through substantial parallel conditions of indemnity.

the number 144,000 is merely a symbol of Gods people. It is not an exact amount. And be aware of the point that not only Christians will go to heaven but anyone who believes in God and repents. You might see some Jews, or Catholics who at the last moment repented.God's Kingdom doesnt exclude anyone despite their race, sex, age, etc.

Remember the church will be taken out and then all these things shall begin to take place. The 144000 will be jews from my understanding. Christians will already be in heaven. This is when God shall bring back His people the children of Israel. He is not finished with the Jews yet. He is going to save some more of them.

This should NOT be a hard question for a Reverend. You did go to Bible College or Seminary, didnt you? This is Sunday School 101 stuff. I'm not going to answer the question for you. At the least you should invest in a couple of Study Bibles, such as Ryre or Schofield, or the John Macauthor Study Bibles. "to whom much is given, much is required".....theBerean

The Almighty YHVH created this world very good. Once man sinned, he could no longer meet the requirements of YHVH. Because of His great love for man, He send His son the Savior. The Savior's name means YHVH is my Savior!--YAHOSHUA! The only way one can have his sins taken care of is to invite the Savior in to carry them. If a person chooses to remain attached to their sins, they will be consumed in the cleansing fire the Almighty will send to cleanse this world so He can make it new! How could the Almighty be more generous?
