The influences that have lifted the human race to a higher moral level are, education, freedom, leisure, the humanizing tendency of a better-supplied and more interesting life. In a word, science and liberalism....have accomplished the very things for which religion claims the credit.
So my answer would be, religions are thief's, murderers, liers, and basically evil.

Religion is a double-edged sword. It can be good for a society. For example, if the major religion in a certain area says stealing is wrong, there will be less theft than there would be if religion did not exist. However religion can (and usually does) cause hatred and prejudice, which is poison to a well-structured society.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I assume your talking about sin vs non sinning - good vs bad - why cant we all just do our own thing - type stuff?
Good is good and bad is bad. Even you understand that concept. If someone murders or rapes some stranger you may say, "oh well, another one bites the dust" - until someone murders or rapes someone you know and care about. Is it good just until it crosses you up personally? Wrong is wrong.
And there are varying degrees of wrong. Lying, cheating, stealing and the like - even without religion spelling that out - society in general views this as wrong.
I heard atheists even say they hate liars. So whats your confusion?

Various Religious symbols, including (first row) Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Baha'i, (second row) Islamic, tribal, Taoist, Shinto (third row) Buddhist, Sikh, Hindu, Jain, (fourth row) Ayyavazhi, Triple Goddess, Maltese cross, pre-Christian SlavonicReligion is the adherence to codified beliefs and rituals that generally involve a faith in a spiritual nature and a study of inherited ancestral traditions, knowledge and wisdom related to understanding human life. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to faith as well as to the larger shared systems of belief.
In the larger sense, religion is a communal system for the coherence of belief—typically focused on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, traditions, and rituals are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion can also be described as a way of life.
The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures. "Organized religion" generally refers to an organization of people supporting the exercise of some religion with a prescribed set of beliefs, often taking the form of a legal entity (see religion-supporting organization). Other religions believe in personal revelation and responsibility. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system,"[1] but is more socially defined than that of personal convictions.

are you asking if religion is good or bad? I think the obvious answer is sometimes good, sometimes bad.
Is religion good for mankind, in theory? Yes, because it unites them.
Realistically? No, because it doesn't unite them. But you need to at least try and unite people.
I enjoy friendship. You don't have to believe or worship anything, and if your friends are acting like a**holes, it is your right as a friend to tell them so to their face.
If everyone was everyone's friend, we wouldn't kill each other, but we probably would unneccessarily beat each other up a lot more. Especially when we got drunk. Good or bad?

religion divides the human race. When you select a religion, you select your "group" and groups divide people, when we are separated we are no longer one strong, healthy race, but millions of individuals who could care less about one another, because they don't believe what you believe. I believe we are all people, and no matter what you believe, and no matter what someone else believes, you should still love each other.
I don't like religion. Be open minded. Be spiritual, not religious. (if you can find the difference within yourself, I bet you'll be a lot happier of a person)

Religion is believing in something that is a higher power I guess. I Don't believe in God but I don't look down upon people that do. To me it's important so society doesn't crash and burn.
