Well my dog is the only dog in the whole nieghborhood who will start barking hysterically if someone is on our land or in the neighborhood late at night (or a new person). Well lately she's been barking really late at night and escaping and when we let her out during the day she escapes again. At first we thought she kept on breaking our fence or digging holes or we forgot to close the gate. But then we relized someone was actually doing this! And lately my dog keeps on coming home with food. At first it was a can of Pedigree dog food and today she brought home a bone! My mom thought of this is someone trying to become friendly with my dog so she will no longer bark at them at night? Please help what should I do? I wanted to go follow my dog at a distance and bring my camera so I could take a picture of the person feeding my dog but is that dangerous?

Just to let everyone know we have a ssix seven foot fence so my dog could not jump over it and my dog is a purebreed female chocolate lab could someone be trying to steal her and sell her or break into someone's yard in the neighborhood?

I think I'd be more upset that someone is coming onto my property and unlatching my gate without my knowledge or permission than someone feeding my dog (if you were to take them as separate issues). Purchase a pad lock and secure your gate. You might also consider calling your local police station, inform them that you believe you've had someone prowling on your property, and ask if they'd be willing to do a few drive-bys occasionally over the next few days. Hopefully they'll be able to catch the person in the act.

Unless you're planning on personally confronting the person who is feeding your dog, I can't see what taking a picture of them in the act would accomplish. Many towns have ordinances about having animals off leash in public areas, so going to the authorities over them feeding your dog may not do any good (they'll tell you to keep your dog on your property). For all you know, the dog could have realized that someone in your neighborhood has some pretty good stuff in their trash and has figured out a way through the gate/fence!

If you decide to follow your dog to get to the bottom of things, bring someone else with you.

She came home with a can of Pedigree dog food? LOL Well, all of the possibilities that other people have mentioned exist. There are a lot of nuts out there who would poison, or try to befriend a dog in order to break in to a home later, etc. But on the other hand you might have an escape artist and a neighbor who really likes dogs and is up late at night, possible even feeding their own. Is she spayed? If not you could soon have more company than you bargained for. Another thing to worry about is leash laws, as her owner you are responsible for keeping her contained. It might be interesting if you put a note on her collar and invited her new human friend to come and introduce themselves, in case your not able to discover what is going on by following her and keeping watch. It's hard to say what would work best not knowing anything about the surrounding area, and what would be the easiest way for you to figure out what is happening.

wel yes bringing a camera would be a very good idea but your dog might see you and go up to you anad not go that way or if the person is taking it on a leash or something then yes it would be good.also a good thing would be say if a window was close to where your dog was or like near the fence set a hidden camera so you can probably see the the person or atleast capture the voice.

another thing would be to stay up until the time when the dog normally starts to bark, the go out(maybe run before ts to late) and see who it is.

this isn't really a bad thing i mean if its getting treats and stuff but it could be very bad one day you could come home or look out the window and days/weeks later the dog never came back. so yes i would say you would want to catch the person.this happened to my friend except..well...there was a bad ending..

well good luck and hope this helped!!! <3good luck

I would suggest to have a lock so that nobody can open your gate. The dog should learn not to take food from others or eat something he found. A trick you can do is this: hide a bone or ask a friend to give her food, on which you have placed large amounts of hot pepper. Remove his bowl water. When the dog eats it, he will get hot and as he will not be able to drink water and cool of, he will never again take something that is not given from you. I wish this trick will work and your dog is not allergic to pepper

If your dog is the gabby type, the neighbors may be getting angry and want to hurt her. Some people are not above feeding poisoned meat to a "troublesome" or "irritating" neighborhood dog. I sure hope that is not the case. Poisoning is a very painful way for an animal to go. If that does turn out to be the case, report your suspicions to the authorities. Good luck to you and your lab.

Ok, first thing..if they wanted to hurt her, or take her she would already be gone. If they wanted to "break her out" they already have, and proved up front that they could get her to leave, no need to keep it up. If they had a problem with her barking, uh, they would complain, not let her out and give her food. It all sounds like she knows how to get out, or maybe a kid lets her out, she found a softy that gives her treats and with the kind of dog she is, she has to have attention. Don't be a hero, either lock the gate or keep her inside. I only see a dog, a kid, and an open window with mom trying to figure out where the dog food cans are coming from.

Let your dog sleep inside at night and let her be inside more. Your dog will still alert you if someone is around. Your dog may be jumping the fence and exploring out of boredom and loneliness.
I had a poodle that got out the door once and went and stole someones steaks off their grill! lol
She didn't get caught but she was in trouble by me and I had to watch her when going out the door if someone was grilling..

If I were you I would keep the pet inside, padlock your fence, and make a report to the police. You dog is probably barking at strangers. Also, someone may be trying to poison the dog because your pet is doing what it should..bark at strangers. Hopefully your pet hasn't eaten any food, but keep your pet inside until you know what is going on.

I would try to find out a way to keep your dog in. For his safety, we all know that a dog barking in the night is annoying. These people could be trying to get your dog to trust them and then try to poison him to get the noise to stop. It sounds terrible but you never know who is out there. I hope your dog stays safe!
