I think you may have rubbed in the exfoliator too briskly that the top layer of your skin became raw (I've done this many times before, too. Just eager to lose the blackheads). The rough patches on your skin could be a combination of dry skin AND microscopic scabs from broken tissue on your skin's surface. The redness and burning due to exposed nerve endings are strong indications of this.
Remember, your wet, warm skin in the shower is more sensitive and likely to break than when it is dry so be careful when you use an exfoliator next time.
Allow you skin to heal and treat your face extra gently in the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, make a habit of taking a face towel with you in the shower and a very gentle face wash like Nivea, Cetaphil (or other mild product WITHOUT exfoliating ingredients) and use it to clean your face, concentrating on blackhead-prone areas. THEN, make sure you use a good moisturizer. It will help your skin heal faster and keep it from drying further.
I provided for you links to related topics you might be interested in. I hope they will be of help to you, too.
Take care!

then your probably have irritation towards the product that you are using or you have sensitive skin. Try using the Neutrogena products like the acne face wash its orange and it looks like regular hand soap but it says Acne wash on it in white you can get it at wal mart. and after you scrub your face with it you can use the acne lotion called rapid defense its in a orange and silver bottle and reduces visibility of the acne within 8 hours or so. that's what I usually use everyday because my skin is really sensitive to scrubbing and all that.

Owie. When you have time check out GlyDerm Hydrotone Lite. It's a product I use which is gentle on the skin and recommended by doctors. It doesn't clog pores - which is why I use it and it's very hydrating. It was recommended to me by a doctor's office. I get it online bc it's hard to find locally.

You probably got a reaction to the exfoliate. Wash your face with water and stop using the exfoliate and don't apply anything else to your face because it will make it worse.

You're probably having a reaction to the exfoliator. Don't use it again. And if this redness doesn't clear up, see a dermatologist.
Good luck!

If none of the recommendations that you are getting work, you may want to see a dermatologist to find out what is causing it and to get a medical opinion.
