Boxers are characters, and they are MUCH bigger than the small dogs your sister wants.
They have a meduim-high demand for physical activity, and a high one for mental stimulation. A bored Boxer = destroyed house. The breed is a sweetheart, who loves everyone but may have problems with other dogs especially smaller ones! They are intelligent, they require creative training. They bore easily, and if so, they will ignore you and search for something else to do. Boxers are comedians, and life's a bowl of cherries. Dafy is a good word. They get along great with children, but they are exuberent and WILL end up knocking them (sometimes even YOU) over. They love giving kisses, they snore and drool. While they are not a 'I-need-to-be-by-you-every-second-of-every-day', you can't just throw them out in the backyard without people. They need people to thrive. The breed does not tolerate extremem tempatures well, due to their coat and muzzle. They often have problems with cancer, cysts, and their hearts. Also, they like to think they're lap dogs (one day, you may find yourself buried in 60lbs + of dog. And let me tell you, once your Boxer's settled down, it's hard getting them off. I have three who crush me all the time)
You need to make sure, before even looking for a breeder, you're up to the challenge. In raising or living with one, you must be active. You must be creative. You must be optimistic, and have a tolerance for drool. You have to expect being greeted with kisses. And you have to be prepared to prehaps spent thousands of dollars for medical reasons, and you have to be prepared for possible heart-break as well. Cancer and heart problems claim some of the best. MOST of the best. (this is why you must also find a breeder who tests their breeding stock extensively.)
If you think you can handle that, find a good breeder. Here's a good link for finding sites of reputable breeders: http://www.pro-boxers.com/am_breeders.html (american only on that page) Discuss with them, get a second opinion on whether a Boxer's right for you. And if this is your first dog, you may want to consider another. In fact, a breeder may tell that to you also.
Good luck!

My family has had boxers since 1951 and would never consider getting any other breed. They are excellent family members and are especially good with children. They need a lot of exercise, so it's beneficial to have a nice, big yard or make sure they have daily walks. Boxers are among the greatest comics in the dog world. If you get one, be prepared for tons of fun. I even had one that I swear told himself jokes. They like to be included in all family activities and are very protective of the ones they love.
They don't need much in the way of grooming. A good brushing keeps their coats looking shiny and healthy. I stopped cropping the ears with my boxer I had in the '80s. I refused to put my puppy through that painful procedure. There's no reason for it and I think it's a nicer look with the longer ears. The uncut ears also help with the dog's natural air conditioning and prevents drooling.
When you're shopping for a boxer puppy, be sure to get the medical history of the parents. Check for heart and tumor problems that some of the boxers can get.
I wish you happy puppy hunting. A fellow boxer lover once told me that you can live without a dog, but you can't live without a boxer. Once you have one, you'll know it's true.

Boxers are AWESOME !
We have 2, they are loving, protective, energetic, smart and playful. They remain puppy-like into adulthood. They will want to be with you ALL the time.
If you get a Boxer you MUST socialize it with dogs and any other animal they will be around or else it will be aggressive toward other dogs and animals. You will have to start training it from day 1 and reinforce the training all the time.
Good Luck,
RB

just get a bosten terrier there just like a mini boxer check em out
but I completely agree little dogs are liek ten times more prone to getting out of the house there much harder to pody train my grandma has a chiwawa and it is like 10 years old and still poops under the funiture becuase its so little no one can catch it in the act.
little dogs offer barley and protection against intruders but the also bark (or yip) at everything.
Little dogs tend to bite much more readily than a big dog.
But the pros of a big doga are the bark less
boxers especially are good gaurd dogs but never agressive with the family
boxers are cuddle dogs they like to curl up next to you and put there head in your lap
they also can play with you and you don't have to worry that your goigng to hurt them
boxers are really trainable there really smart so bring that up
so there you go have fun

They rock! There are lots of reasons:
Very loving and cuddly, but playful at the same time.
Easy to care for, as far as grooming goes.
Very intelligent and eager to please.
They are a lot bigger than something like a chihuahua, though...so that might be a tough sell for your sister.
BTW, my husband used to have a Chihuahua and it was psychotic...he loves our Boxer!
The other answers were accurate as well.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm
Here is a quiz you can take that shows you what type of dog would do best with your lifestyle.
Here's a couple sites on boxers:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/boxer.htm
http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geuur33MRFkZEAN2dXNyoA?p=Boxer+rescue&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&x=wrt
the second one is I went to yahoo and typed in "Boxer Resuces" and you can chose a rescue near you, if you decide to rescue.
Good luck!

WONDERFUL DOGS WITH GREAT HEARTS AND LOYALTY. I HAVE 1 (@ MY MOTHER'S HOUSE) . She is the best dog I have ever had- very obedient. We were even able to teach her not to look at us when we eat. They need lots of exercise with you. Lots of fetch and running. My boxer loves to swim.

They are very loving, but very hyper. They need alot of exercise and they don't know their own strength - not that they're violent, but they do jump a lot.
