hair roller/curlers?

hi, i have a bunch of hair curlers that are prickly on the sides so they don't need any clips to keep them in. the problem is that my hair gets tangled in the velcro-like prickles.

is this normal or am i using them incorrectly? from which direction do you roll them into your hair?

I think rollers like that are best used for people with short hair who want volume, meaning they most likely brush they're hair some afterwards. I would recomend gettings some different curlers, go to a salon or beauty store and ask for curlers that will work right for your hair type.
