Bought a 04 neon. When accelerating from a low speed, it seems to jump into gear. Is this a normal condition?

i think so, try to leave it @ an auto shop, and see what they will find out.

Do you mean it is shifting hard? Check the fluid, if it's low it may do this, also make sure the right type of fluid is/was being used in the tranny. Wrong fluid = junk tranny= lotta money.

Have a 2000 neon, it likes to grab gears at low speeds, too. after 118K miles it still works fine.
