If you want to make your sled go real fast, get some X-country ski wax. (you would have to go a sports store, wax comes in two kinds , this sticy stuff and the stuff that makes you slide with less friction, this is want you want, its whole purpose is to do exactly what you want to make things slide over snow)

If you want something from around the house, you might try butter? Or a bit of mineral or vegetable oil? this would be messy but would stop the snoe from sticking to your sled. Though I'd make the trip to the sports store and get the real stuff.

Also you can take your sled and do a single run carefully and then use a watering can and over a few days water the run until you end up with a luge run, then you'll go really fast.

Sand the bottom of your plastic sled to knock off any ruff edges, then use Ski wax or Surf Board wax.

To make your wood sled faster, you will need to sharpen the metal rails. Don't try to get them sharp like a knife, file them down just enough to knock off any ruff edges.

I grew up in the north woods of Wisconsin...believe me I know alllllllll kinds of tricks, lol. Non stick spray works well, so does Crisco or any other type of shortening or baby oil. If you're looking for long term solutions....get a fine grit sanding paper, and sand off any big gashes in the bottom that came from running over something....then spray the bottom with a high gloss clear spray paint....good luck and don't hurt yourself, lol!

Try spraying the underside with WD-40 or cooking oil spray(not the flour kind), then hang on.
