I worked at Pet Smart for 9 months and would still be there but I am pregnant now.

Our classes are guaranteed and work! We do know what we are talking about.

It is an 8 week course once a week (same say every week) for an hour to an hour and a half.

You will learn all your basics in puppy class.

Potty Training
Sit
Stay
Down
Loose leash walking
Come
Wrong
Leave it and Take it

Your puppy will need to be up to date on his or her shots. You will want a proper fit harness with a normal leash not a retractable. You will also want some soft puppy treats to use during class.

It is a great way for you and your puppy to learn and become social.

Classes are held in English.

Almost any structured puppy class is going to be a huge asset to you. PetSmart has compiled a training program that is used by all their in-house trainers and generally is a sound and well run course. Each trainer running the course will have varying levels of skill and experience, but the course (and course handbooks) are themselves very useful.

One advantage of PetSmart is the cost savings for such a long course duration. You will attend class once a week for the 8 week period, generally attending for one hour on the day of the week your class is held.

I highly recommend anyone with a puppy to attend a structured puppy training program - you'll be amazed with what you learn and how your dog learns. The sooner you get into classes, the better it is for your dog - and in the long term for you too!
Good luck!

My pup is just completing the 8 week course. She has finals and graduation next week. I think it is great. She learned a lot of basic commands. She learned to socialize with other dogs and with people. She learned how to walk properly on a leash and how to behave in public. For the price that Petsmart charges (mine charges $119) it can't be beat. I truly have a much better behaved puppy after 8 weeks in puppy class.

You can train using any language or words that you want. Classes are generally once a week.

But you can certainly do better than Petsmart. Their only hire 'trainers' without experience and every Petsmart 'trainer' I have ever seen is completely clueless and has no business trying to teach training classes. Suppose there *might* be a few, you could get lucky. Go to a kennel or obedience club where they have real trainers who can deal with any problems you might have. Look for trainers who know that one size fits all methods do not work, and have put titles on their own dogs.

If you want classes ONLY to socialize your puppy, then likely Petsmart classes would be fine. Their trainers aren't exactly very knowledgeable and if you have a dog with any problems that need to be worked on, you need to find better classes than they offer - try an all-breed club in your area.

i went. your price is correct. you go once a week. it helps, ONLY if you practice at home. we didn't practice as much as we should have, but our puppy learned some things, plus, it's a great way to socialize him/her. they get to spend time with other dogs, and it helps. don't buy the treat holder (it's optional). i bought one, and it was more a pain in the butt than helpful. make sure you practice, or you'll get frustrated.
good luck! have fun.
