Hi i've had this done with the sedative. Basically you go in and they spray your throat to numb it. They will hook you up to some machines to monitor you. Put the needle in your arm or hand for the sedative then lay you on your side. I had the oxygen connected to my nose. A mouth guard is placed between your teeth and you close your eyes. Whilst you are awake and all the sedative does is relax you it is the spray that has numbed your throat so much you shouldn't feel the tube, which is quite thin. I must admit I gagged once but then it was in and it isn't that bad, my procedure took 5 minutes and I had the biopsy samples taken too. I was wheeled into recovery for 30 minutes then sat up for 15 minutes then given some tea to drink then spoke with someone about the test before I was discharged. Now everyones experience is different. I remembered it all but it does depend on your personal medical history how much mgs of sedative they give you. But the throat spray is underestimated. You will be fine. If I can do it then you can. Everything hospital like freaks me out, needles included. But you always think it is worse than it actually is. The staff are used to people being anxious and know what they are doing. Best of luck anyway hope it goes well.

You might be awake, but the drugs make it so that you are completely loopy. You probably won't remember it at all. They will tell you exactly what to do. You can have someone hold your hand if you want.

Before they give you the medication you can ask the doctor to describe exactly what will happen. That can help you to feel better about the procedure.

I'm sorry that you're experiencing a GI problem and I certainly hope that the endoscopy will shed light on the issue. HTH!

You will feel nothing and when it is over you still will not feel like you have had anything done. The medicine that you are given makes you forget all that went on while they worked on you. Someone will have to go with you to drive you home and to listen to what the doctor says to you when it is over as you will not remember what he told you. Try to relax. Wish you well. No you will not gag at all, and no noone will be holding your hand. You won't know if there was someone to hold your hand anyway.
